The Quicksand Castle (砂の城, Isago no Shiro?) is a dungeon in Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. The castle is the home of the Sand Devil and is located north east of the Kingdom of Guera. Like the name suggests, the castle is full of quicksand traps that teleport the player around the dungeon floors.
Brandt, Krinjh, and Yunita go to the Quicksand Castle after King Guera asks for the three to help him get rid of a monster problem in the desert. At the final level, the party is attacked by the Sand Devil. After defeating the Sand Devil, it is revealed to be Ariadne, but she had little time left. Krinjh apologizes to Ariadne for failing her and the two disappear into the moonlight.
After the party is sent back in time, the party goes Guera to meet with Krinjh and Ariadne. After the party saves Krinjh from the monsters sent to murder him, the party to goes to the Quicksand Castle to save Ariadne. When the party arrives, they discover that King Guera is trying to manipulate Ariadne's thoughts about Krinjh and using the powers of the seedling for evil. The party intervenes and defeats King Guera, but after using the Merkmal on him he transforms into his true form, Asmodeus. After the party defeats Asmodeus, Krinjh and Ariadne give the party the Shield of Light.

Musical themes Edit
The typical dungeon theme, "Cave of Wraiths" (あやかしの洞, Ayakashi no hora?) is the location theme for the Hunting Caves. The track can be found in the original soundtrack as Track 9 and is composed by Naoshi Mizuta.
Quicksand is a colloid hydrogel consisting of fine granular material (such as sand or silt), clay, and water formed in saturated loose sand when the sand is suddenly agitated. When water in the sand cannot escape it creates a liquefied soil that cannot support weight. Quicksand can form in standing or upwards flowing water. The saturated sediment may appear solid until a change in pressure or shock initiates liquefaction causing the sand to form a suspension and lose strength. Objects in liquefied sand sink to the level at which the weight of the object is equal to the weight of the displaced soil/water mix and the submerged object floats due to its buoyancy. Liquefaction is a special case of quicksand where an earthquake increases the pore pressure of shallow groundwater. The saturated liquefied soil loses strength, causing buildings or other objects on that surface to sink.
