Purobolos (ピュロボロス, Pyuroborosu?, lit. Pyrobolos), or Puroboros, is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series. It is often a more powerful version of the Grenade, and like all other Bomb-types, has access to the ability Self-Destruct.
Appearances[]
Final Fantasy II[]
Puroboros is an enemy fought exclusively in the Game Boy Advance and later releases at Arubboth. They are only moderately dangerous, having regular attacks and Self-Destruct VIII. However, they are valuable for their item drops. They are the strongest of the Bomb-family.
Final Fantasy V[]
Purobolos is a boss fought at the Walse Meteorite in a group of six. They are dangerous to an unprepared party as they have moderately powerful physical attacks, can use Self-Destruct at any moment, can heal with Cura, and when killed, will cast Arise on the enemy party, potentially reviving any defeated Purobolos. Silence can be applied to them to prevent Cura and Arise. While Purobolos is an upgrade to the Bomb, it is still weaker than the Grenade.
Final Fantasy X[]
Puroboros is an enemy fought at Omega Ruins, being the strongest normal Bomb-type in the game, with only the Bomb King being more powerful. Like all other Bombs, it will grow up to two times after taking damage, and when at full size will attack with Self-Destruct for roughly 2,500 damage. It can also attack with a regular attack and Firaga. Kimahri can learn Self-Destruct as a Ronso Rage.
Final Fantasy XI[]
Final Fantasy XII[]
Purobolos is an enemy fought at Pharos - Third Ascent, and is the most powerful of the normal Bomb-type enemies. It is a dangerous enemy in that, aside from the traditional Lunge, Self-Destruct, Mass-Destruct, and Chain Reaction abilities all Bomb-types have, it has access to the Darkra spell. Unlike all others of the Bomb-family, it is not weak to water-elemental attacks and does not absorb fire-elemental attacks, but instead is weak to holy-elemental attacks and absorbs dark-elemental attacks.
Final Fantasy XIV[]
Puroboros is an enemy found in the Labyrinth of the Ancients spawning during the fight against the King Behemoth. Instead of actively fighting the players, they will slowly make their way toward one of the four electrical towers in the arena and attempt to Self-Destruct on it.
Final Fantasy XVI[]
Final Fantasy Dimensions[]
Purobolos is an enemy fought at Mt. Wells and Akame Valley. It is the most powerful of the Bomb-family, and has access to the abilities Self-Destruct and Firaga.
