Battle Edit

It has a 66% chance to use Lifeshaver on its second turn, and may do so twice. On the third turn it may use its special, Heave, a powerful attack. On its fourth and fifth turns it has a 33% chance to use either Atomic Rays, Lifeshaver, or Heave.

Since they often attack with a Great Malboro, which use Bad Breath when alone, the Primeval Dragon should be killed last. Blizzaga attacks work well against it.

Coliseum setup Edit

Bet Air Anchor for Zephyr Cloak

Primeval Dragon's Firaga can be evaded by having a high Magic Evasion, but little can be done against its Meteor. A Muscle Belt can bring the wearer's HP high enough to survive one Meteor if they aren't already equipped with a Flame Shield or the Paladin's Shield. Both will let the wearer absorb Firaga, which may replenish the character's HP enough to survive the next Meteor.

The Red Cap is another option that raises the max HP, but note that a combination of max HP raising equipment won't have a better effect than the piece of equipment that gives the best HP boost would on it's own.

Another tactic would be to go all out on offense, since nothing concrete can be done to prevent Meteor. In this case, a Genji Glove with two powerful weapons and a Reflect Ring would allow the player to deal good damage by attacking AND reflecting Firaga back to Primeval Dragon. Shadow in the front row equipped with the Kagenui and Ichigeki, along with the Genji Glove and Reflect Ring, can dish out good damage; he also has a chance of casting Stop on the Primeval Dragon, a means reflecting Firaga, and a chance of countering its physical attacks with Interceptor.

Etymology Edit

A dragon is a legendary creature, typically with serpentine or reptilian traits, that features in the myths of many cultures.

Brontaur is a contraction of Brontosaur, a large Jurassic-era sauropod dinosaur whose name means "Thunder Lizard". It bears a striking resemblance to the Primeval Dragon's sprite and likely inspired its name (the Japanese language does not make a distinction between "dragon" and "dinosaur").
