Final Fantasy III Original Sound Version, is the complete soundtrack of the original NES version. It was not the game's first compilation album, having been released a year after the arranged album Final Fantasy III: Eternal Legend of the Wind.

The NES version never made it to western shores, and it was not until the DS version the soundtrack was widely distributed in America and the rest of the world.

The album has been distributed digitally under the name Final Fantasy III Original Soundtrack. Later, the album was remastered and released as tracks 47 to 91 of Final Fantasy I・II・III Original Soundtrack Revival Disc.

The music of Final Fantasy III was Nobuo Uematsu's twenty-first contribution to the video game industry.

Music samples[]

Sheet music[]

Final Fantasy III Original Soundtrack Piano Solo Sheet Music, published by DOREMI Music Publishing, contains solo piano arrangements for all the music on the Nintendo DS version of the Final Fantasy III: Original Soundtrack. The compilation book Final Fantasy I·II·III Complete Song Collection contains piano arrangements for the three first games in the Final Fantasy series.

Behind the scenes[]

The original background music for the town of Amur was used in creating the song "Cloud Smiles" in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.

Two cut tracks appear on a background music list used by the development team featured in the Final Fantasy Ultimania Archive Volume 1 book: "Xande Battle" and "Giant bird's nest". These would presumably have been used during the boss battle against Xande and in Bahamut's nest on top of Dragon's Peak, respectively. It is unknown how much work, if any, had been done on these tracks before they were cut.
