A warrior who participates in battle using Speechcraft. Words, rather than swords, are the orator's weapons.

Description

Orator, also known as Mediator in the original version or Talker in the Japanese version, is a job from Final Fantasy Tactics. A magickal-based job, the Orators use speech as their main form of attack, along with guns. It is through the Orator the player can recruit monsters into their party, but they can also be used to recruit human characters. It costs 3,900 JP to master this job. Despite the Orators' illustration, they cannot equip any rods, staves, nor poles.

Leveling Orator up to level 5 in The War of the Lions along with other level requirements with Squire, Chemist, Summoner, Geomancer, and Dragoon will unlock Mime, while leveling the job up to 5 with Summoner will unlock Bard for males. The level requirements in the original PlayStation versions are a little lower.

Overview[]

Entice recruitment begins

Speechcraft used to recruit an enemy.

The Orator is a job that uses the power of speech to attack his foes. The success rate of their Speechcraft is based on magick, which, despite being their highest attribute, still is below average. They fill a niche role, being more useful to recruit specific enemies, such as monsters, which can be bred and poached in tandem with Thief's Poach. They can also be used to permanently lower or raise other units' Bravery and Faith, including ally units.

Orators are the only basic job other than Chemist or Onion Knight (Tactics) that can equip guns. Their support ability, Equip Guns, can be used on Knights or Archers to raise their combat effectiveness, especially when paired with the rare magick guns, to charge with a low level aim, or use arts of war to rend speed from a distance.

Entice can be an alternative to Steal, as recruiting an enemy human invites all their equipment as well, though this will not work on bosses.
