Omega Mk.II is a superboss in the Advance and 2013 versions of Final Fantasy V, found in the Sealed Temple's Tomb of Memory. The basic difference between Omega and Omega Mk.II is that the latter can change its elemental weakness.

Defeating Omega Mk.II in the 2013 version earns the achievement "Mechanical Warrior II".

Battle[]

Barrier-Shift-FFV

Barrier Shift (GBA).

Omega Mk.II starts the battle in its fire-vulnerable form, but immediately uses Barrier Change to swap to a randomly chosen weakness of ice or lightning. It will use Barrier Change again when hit by its currently active weakness as a counter reaction. Aside from fire, ice, and lightning, Omega Mk.II absorbs every other element.

Aside from Barrier Change rotating its weakness, Omega Mk.II is largely the same as Omega, but with higher stats. Its increased speed makes it far more dangerous.

Omega Mk.II has permanent reflect and shell. It is vulnerable to slow and stop statuses; However, its 100% magic evasion makes any inflicting spell miss. It cannot avoid the effects of Sing. The different forms share HP, but not status effects, so slow must be reapplied after a Barrier Change. Each form can also have an Elixir stolen, for a total of 3 possible.

As all forms possess 100% magical evasion and 100% physical evasion, any attack that needs an accuracy check will always miss.

Its actions include:

  • Wave Cannon - Inflicts sap, and deals damage to all party members equal to 1/2 max HP. This is its most common attack, performed roughly every other turn.
  • Delta Attack - Damages and may inflict petrify to one party.
  • Maelstrom - May reduce the party's HP to single digits.
  • Blaster - May either paralyze or kill a party member.
  • Encircle - May erase a party member from the battle. They cannot act or be targeted, and they gain no EXP or ABP at the battle's end. The only way to reverse this effect would be to reset to beginning of the battle through Return.
  • Earthquake - Major earth-elemental attack to all party members. Does not affect floating targets.
  • Rainbow Wind - May inflict darkness, silence, and sap to one target.
  • Flame Thrower - Deals fire-elemental damage. Unlike the player's version, can hit the whole party. Can be learned as Blue Magic.
  • Atomic Ray - Deals fire-elemental damage to all party members.
  • Mustard Bomb - Damages and inflicts sap to a party member.
  • Rocket Punch - Inflicts damage equal to 1/2 of current HP and inflicts confuse.
  • Search - Indicates the target for his next action. If reflected, Omega may hit itself with Rainbow Wind or Flame Thrower.
  • Barrier Change - Used only at the start of the battle and when hit by its elemental weakness. Changes to a randomly selected elemental weakness (between fire, ice and lightning) that is not the same as its currently active weakness.
  • Remedy - Used only as a reaction to Rapid Fire. Fully restores Omega Mk.II's HP. Can target an ally if Search was used on a party member just before.

Strategy[]

Many of the strategies applied to Omega are valid here, but the player should avoid elemental attacks entirely. If they wish to strike at Omega Mk.II's elemental weakness, they must bounce Libra off a character with reflect active.

The player should pre-cast Float before engaging to avoid the possible Earthquakes.

Reflect Ring can reflect Atomic Ray, Delta Attack, Blaster and Search. Reflecting Search may result in Omega Mk.II hitting itself with Flame Thrower or Atomic Ray, potentially healing itself if its weakness is not fire. Hermes Sandals are great options if the party can survive most of Omega Mk.II's attacks and should help keep pace with its high speed. Flame Ring or Flame Shield can absorb Atomic Ray and Flame Thrower. Ribbon can block the status afflictions from Rainbow Wind, Delta Attack and Blaster. Rainbow Dress, Genji Armor or Bone Mail can block the confusion from Rocket Punch.

Mixing Dragon Kiss nullifies Maelstrom, Rocket Punch and Encircle. Blocking Encircle is especially important, as it may render the party too small to fight if it connects too many times. Characters not wearing Flame Shield or Flame Ring can have the Resist Fire Mix applied. Mixing Hasty-ade allows for haste over reflect. With a proper combination of all the aforementioned defences, the only threats remaining are Wave Cannon and the counter reaction Mustard Bomb.

As Wave Cannon deals 1/2 of max HP damage, low max HP characters can outpace the damage through regen and level boosting by mixing Dragon Power. This should allow the character to regenerate enough HP to survive in between each Wave Cannon. Singing Mighty March is an easy way to grant regen to the whole party at once.

High max HP characters require additional healing. White Wind is the most usable, as it heals for the user's current HP and goes through reflect. Combined with Dragon Kiss to prevent Maelstrom from connecting and regen status, White Wind should be adequate in keeping the party alive.

For damage dealing, attacks that automatically connect are the only options due to Omega Mk.II's perfect evasion. Non-elemental attacks are best to strike with to avoid any chance Omega Mk.II absorbs the attack. Flare Spellblade can increase damage greatly. Rapid Fire is the most damaging physical attack skill, but the player must be wary of the chance Omega Mk.II fully restores itself with Remedy afterwards. The player should try to win with a single Rapid Fire strike, amplified with Flare Spellblade, Dual-Wield and level boosting with Dragon Power.

When using reflected Libra and aiming for Omega Mk.II's weakness, the party can prevent any of Omega Mk.II's offensive counter reactions, as Barrier Change takes priority. By only ever attacking with its elemental weakness, the team will not need to worry about Rocket Punch, Encircle or Mustard Bomb. Dualcasted Black Magic spells Firaga / Blizzaga / Thundaga can be reflected off of the party wearing Reflect Rings. Using the Firaga / Blizzaga / Thundaga Spellblades are also an option, changing each one as appropriate.

Omega Mk.II can be slowed by Combining Slow Cannon. Cannoneers also make for effective attackers with damaging cannon attacks, as they do not miss. The Dragon Kiss Mix can be applied to Omega Mk.II so that Dragon Cannon deals double damage. Otherwise, the materials for Power Cannon are the easiest to acquire.

The player can shut down Omega Mk.II's counter reactions via Romeo's Ballad to inflict stop status temporarily. By only selecting attacks immediately after singing Romeo's Ballad, the team can avoid the Remedy response to Rapid Fire, or the Rocket Punch/Encircle/Mustard Bomb reactions to other attacks. They can even prevent the Barrier Change and keep Omega Mk.II locked to a specific weakness. The player should wait for their attackers to fill their ATB gauges before singing Romeo's Ballad, as the stop duration is very short.

A good strategy is to have a team of two Freelancers to attack (one using Longinus and Genji Shield, and the other using Ragnarok and Crystal Shield, both wearing a Ribbon). Both should have Rapid Fire, one with Spellblade, and the other with Sing. The other two party members can be Mimes and act as supports, equipped with shields. One Mime should have Dualcast, White and Blue Magic, and the other have Dualcast, White and Time Magic. All characters should equip a Flame Ring.

Etymology[]

Omega (capital: Ω, lowercase: ω; Greek Ωμέγα) is the twenty-fourth and last letter of the Greek alphabet, representing a longer Latin "o" as well as the "oo" and "ou" IPA vowel clusters. In mathematics, it is synonymous with a set's end or limit. In physics, uppercase omega is the SI abbreviation for the ohm, a unit of electrical resistance.
