A thousand years it has been since a challenger stood before me. Show me the power you possess. Defeat me if you can.

Omega

Omega is a superboss in the Dawn of Souls and 20th anniversary versions of Final Fantasy. It is found on the final floor (Floor B20) of the Lifespring Grotto, and either it or Shinryu must be defeated to complete and leave the dungeon.

Omega's location.

Omega is arguably the hardest boss in the versions of the game that include bonus contente, with only Shinryu and Chronodia providing any real argument. It has the highest Defense stat so initially physical attacks will be useless. Omega's physical attacks do hefty damage and can KO even high-level characters in a single hit. Its Wave Cannon move also hits the entire party for 200–300 damage.

Strategy[]

It is recommended to be at level 60 or higher. Having both a Black Wizard and White Wizard is helpful, and using the Giant's Gloves as an item on any physical attacker makes them much more useful in this battle.

FFI PSP Wave Cannon

Wave Cannon in the 20th Anniversary version.

The Black and Red Wizards should use Temper and Haste on the party. After the party is buffed up, the Black Wizard should either use Thundaga or use the Judgment Staff received previously from Atomos for free castings of Flare. The melee units should not even think about attacking until they have Temper cast on them at least twice, and have cast Saber on themselves using the Giant's Gloves. The White Wizard should use Healaga or Healara every turn, because Omega frequently uses Wave Cannon. Several Ethers to replenish MP are likely required, because this battle takes a long time as a result of Omega's astronomical HP and Defense (an attack will be lucky to break 1,000 damage).

In spite of his high defenses, Omega is manageable. Wave Cannon is powerful, but nothing that cannot be recuperated from with Healaga. Omega does use Earthquake and its physical attack can hit for 500–1000 damage on one character, but if the party keeps healing with the mages and attacking with the warriors, Omega will eventually be defeated.

Etymology[]

Omega (capital: Ω, lowercase: ω; Greek Ωμέγα) is the twenty-fourth and last letter of the Greek alphabet, representing a longer Latin "o" as well as the "oo" and "ou" IPA vowel clusters. In mathematics, it is synonymous with a set's end or limit. In physics, uppercase omega is the SI abbreviation for the ohm, a unit of electrical resistance.
