[edit] Final Fantasy XII

"A film of oil coats the character, increasing vulnerability to fire. Remove with a Handkerchief."

Oil is a status effect as well as the name of Green Magick spell that causes it. It triples the damage an affected creature or character takes from fire-based spells while in effect. It can only be removed by using a handkerchief or a remedy. The License of Oil is Green Magick 5 that costs 40 License Points.

The International Zodiac Job System version retains Oil as Green Magick with its License being Green Magick 1 that still costs 40 LP. Oil can be learned by five job classes; White Mage, Machinist, Red Mage, Time Mage and Black Mage, although Machinist must obtain the Esper License for Exodus first.

[edit] Final Fantasy Tactics

Oil is a status effect that doubles the effect of fire attacks on the inflicted character. The inflicted character will turn a certain gray and a oil drop icon floats above it. It is normally caused by a Bomb's Self Destruct or a Ghost's Oily Touch, but other enemy attacks such as from Malboro's Bad Breath or Reaver's Bio can cause it. It can be removed when the character is attacked by fire, or using Remedy.

[edit] Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift

Per usual, it increases the amount of damage you take from fire element attacks. The Oil spell can be cast by the Green Mage. In addition, a Blue Mage may learn the spell Unction from a Red Marshmallow, which inflicts the Oil status. A Spellblade can learn "Oil Blade" from the Broadsword. Oil is cured by the Handkerchief or Remedy items.
