The Sandsea

Vaan at the Sandsea.

This is Urutan-Yensa territory... and they are unfond of visitors.

Balthier

The Ogir-Yensa Sandsea (大砂海オグル・エンサ, Dai Sakai Oguru Ensa?) is a location in the land of Ivalice in Final Fantasy XII. It is a desert to the far west, where the sand flows like water.

Sage Knowledge

A desert region in the west of the Jagd Yensa, most of it covered in fine-grain sand that ebbs and flows like water, compared from antiquity to a sea. Abandoned drilling rigs can be found here and there, dotted about the ever-shifting terrain. In the past, the Rozzarian Empire sought to draw rich oils from the ground here, but relentless attacks from the Urutan-Yensa, who consider the Sandsea to be solely theirs, drove them away. Men are now a rare sight inside the desert borders.

Story

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)
Vaan sandsea

Vaan looking at the sand of the Sandsea.

After saving Princess Ashe on Dreadnought Leviathan she decides to pursue the throne of Dalmasca, but in order to prove her lineage as royalty, she needs to obtain the Dawn Shard in Tomb of Raithwall.

The party accompany Ashe on her quest through the Sandseas, and are joined by Vossler, member of Resistance, who has been looking out for Ashe since she was announced having committed suicide two years previously. During the party's journey through the Sandseas they are pursued by Urutan-Yensa, eager to defend their land from the humes.

Spoilers end here.

Location

The Ogir-Yensa Sandsea is located to the west of the Dalmasca Westersand, in the Jagd Yensa region. To the west lies the Nam-Yensa Sandsea. From the east Sandsea can be accessed from Westersand or Zertinan Caverns.

Weather

There are two possible weather conditions in Ogir-Yensa Sandsea:

  • Sunny
  • Cloudy (dust is blown in the air, sky is discolored)

Because the Sandsea is of sand terrain, all Earth attacks are 20% more powerful than normal.

Treasures

Template:See Also Unlike in most regions of the world, the Ogir-Yensa Sandsea has many treasures that contain equipment. Other common item treasures are common recovery items, such as Potions and Phoenix Downs, and Motes. When the Diamond Armlet is equipped the common item treasure is Knot of Rust, and the rare item treasure is a good recovery item, such as Hi-Ether or X-Potion, or a high level Mote, such as Scathe Mote or Holy Mote.

In Platform 1 - Refinery, the treasure at the end of the sandy bit in the southwest of the map can contain a Bronze Shield. In the Platform 1 - South Tanks area, there is a junction in the south of the map that splits in half, both pathways ending in a dead-end. In the western dead-end the player may find a Spear. On the third oil rig when counting from the east, the player may find a pair of Gauntlets.

In the Central Junction area, in the dead-end in the southeast, the player may find a Sash. In the northwest of the same area, the player can descend stairs to a sandy bit. A treasure that spawns near the stairs can contain a Sallet.

In the East Junction area, right before the entrance to Zertinan Caverns, there can spawn a treasure that may contain the Killer Bow. In the west of the area the player can descend stairs to ground level, and on the very west of that area there can spawn a treasure that may have the Mace. In the northeast of the area there is a junction, and the treasure that spawns in the middle may have the Handaxe.

The path that ends in a dead-end to the west may have the Zwill Blade or Spear, and the dead-end to the east may have the Cypress Pole or Capella. The treasure in the northwest of the map, right before exit to Primary Tank Complex, can have the Chopper.

In the Primary Tank Complex, in the southeast dead-end, the player may find a Iron Helm. In the very east of the area the player may find the Ringmail. Around the second to last oil rig, before the bridge that leads to the last oil rig before exit to Platform 2 - Refinery, the player may find the Iron Armor. On the final oil rig, right before the exits to Platform 2 - Refinery and Central Junction, the player may find a Mage Masher.

In Platform 2 - Refinery there is a dead-end to the west, around which many treasures can spawn. Among the treasures the player may find a Horned Hat and a Wizard's Hat. On a collapsed bridge to the west the player may find another Bronze Shield and on the middle of the complex in the south the player may find an Armguard. After descending the stairs before entering Nam-Yensa, the player may find the Battle Harness.

Local Race

The Urutan-Yensa are the only humanoids who live in the Sandsea. A peculiar race, not much is known about them due to their hatred of outsiders. However, they have a hard exoskeleton, and walk very quickly. They also have a Queen, indicating an insect-like society.

Oil Rigs

Ogir-yensa sandsea

Oil rigs around Ogir-Yensa Sandsea.

Built by the Rozarrian Empire, these giant rigs were built to drill oil from the sea. Because of interference by the Urutan-Yensa, Rozarria abandoned them and travelers use them as walkways to cross the desert.
