Offensive Items are all the consumable items in the series whose effect consists on damaging or inflicting negative Statuss to the target, thus, Offensive Items can be divided into damaging and status-inducing items. In some games, these items can be categorized into other types, mostly miscellaneous. There are also many recurring items of this type, such as most of the elemental items (i.e. Bomb Core; Antarctic Wind), the powerful Dark Matter and the more recent Knot of Rust. Shuriken and Skeans can also be considered offensive items, usable only by the Ninja'sThrow.
In most games, these items are scarce and rare, and can only be obtained in few chests, enemy drops or by using the Steal ability.
Usually, elemental offensive items cast black magic spells when used. The game differences on this are usually the tiers available for those items, for example: In Final Fantasy III, there are only items that may cast -ra and -aga spells, while the three first tiers are available on items in Final Fantasy X. Status inducing items commonly vary in name and accuracy, but in the case of Final Fantasy X, most of these can also cause non-elemental damage and are only avoided though immunity.
In the recent remakes to the older games of Final Fantasy, the increase of offensive items in the games were one of the changes, most notably, to the Dawn of Souls and 20th Anniversary remakes of Final Fantasy.
Offensive Items are called "Fangs" or "Motes" in Final Fantasy XII and are rare as well. The only purchasable item of this list is the Knot of Rust, and even then, it can only be purchased later in the game.
