Odin is an esper in Final Fantasy VI who can be acquired as a magicite. He can also be transformed into the Raiden magicite.
Profile
Odin is a demonic figure who wears dark grey armor. He rides on a dark brown horse, and carries a large sword (presumably the Zantetsuken) and shield.
Story
During the War of the Magi a thousand years ago, Odin was the guardian esper of the Ancient Castle. During an attack by enemy espers, the castle's defenders were felled and they were forced to rely on Odin to protect them. Odin dispatched ranks of the enemy with Zantetsuken, but an unknown sorcerer entered and was unable to be harmed. The sorcerer petrified Odin, but he refused to turn into magicite and was left standing as a statue before the castle's throne. When the party finds Odin, his remains crumble to form his magicite piece.
If the party finds a hidden passage into the basement, examining the petrified remains of the castle's queen, who was in love with Odin, causes the statue to shed a tear that transforms Odin into Raiden.
Obtained
Odin is obtained when entering the Ancient Castle and finding a statue of him. When examining it, the statue crumbles away, and the magicite is then obtained.
Battle
Odin costs 70 MP to summon, and casts Zantetsuken (known as Atom Edge in the original translation). This has a chance to immediately kill all enemies, though it does not always work.
Magicite
Odin is equippable as a magicite, and teaches Meteor (x1). When leveling up, he provides a +1 boost to Speed.
In the original release, Odin was the only magicite which could provide a boost to Speed. However, in the Advance and subsequent versions, the esper Cactuar grants a superior bonus of +2 Speed, meaning Odin can be safely upgraded.

Etymology
In Germanic mythology, Odin (from Old Norse Óðinn) is a widely revered god. In Norse mythology, from which stems most of our information about the god, Odin is associated with healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, battle, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet, and is the husband of the goddess Frigg.
