Noah (ノア, Noa?) was a famous Magus from Final Fantasy III. He lived on the Dalg continent, and was famous throughout the world, with modern-day mages in Replito continuing to revere him long after his death.
Noah had three disciples: Xande, Doga and Unei. He trained and gave each of them a gift: mortality to Xande, vast knowledge of magic to Doga, and absolute control of the dream world to Unei. His fate after this is unknown, but an Evoker in Replito mentions his demise offhand.
Noah was responsible for the sealing of Leviathan and Bahamut on the Floating Continent, it is also stated that he was able to summon them both. He could not only use both white and black magic, but he could also use summoning magic.
The Magus is referenced several times through items and abilities: Noah's Lute is an item used in the game to awaken Unei from her sleep, and the song used by Bards in the game is called "Lute of Noah".
Etymology
Edit
Noah is most likely a reference to the biblical Noah, who built the ark and rebuilt the world after a great flood. Much of the game is centered around floods of some variety, such as the Flood of Light, the Flood of Darkness, or the flood that resulted from the lack of functionality of the Water Crystal.
Trivia
Edit
- In the Dawn of Souls and 20th Anniversary remakes of the original Final Fantasy, Noah is one of the automatic names the player can choose for the White Mage Job.
- In Dissidia Final Fantasy, there is an accessory called Noah's Lute.
