The Nekton is an enemy in Final Fantasy XIII-2. At only 180 HP, it is a very easy foe to defeat, especially if it is caught in a preemptive strike, which will put it right next to its stagger threshold.

Paradigm PackEdit

Although there are a few monster Ravagers whose development focuses on more than one element, Nekton is the first the player will encounter with two, and is uncommon in using both ice and lightning spells. Its stat development is heavily weighted towards Magic and thus if given Potent or Mana materials, its Magic value may rise above 1,000.

Its Crystarium development graph is somewhat unusual. Its stats rise quickly at first, but after level 10, its stat growth almost stops until it reaches level 60, after which it significantly increases once again up to level 99.

EtymologyEdit

A nekton is a subcategory of ocean-dwelling creatures capable of free movement independent of water currents, as opposed to plankton, which cannot. This includes vertebrates such as fish, molluscs such as squid, and crustaceans such as crabs or lobsters. Like all enemies of the Rift Beast class, the name is derived from a real class of living organism that also form part of an ancient clade of the evolutionary tree, referring to their origins in the Void Beyond.
