Neil Fleming is a protagonist in the movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. He is very much able to work under pressure, which his somewhat high-pitched voice belies. He also provides most of the comic relief in the story. He is voiced by Steve Buscemi.

[edit] Joining up with Aki

Neil is part of the Deep Eyes, the squad led by Gray Edwards. Neil isn't much of a fighter, instead, he is the technology whiz-kid of the group. When something needs to be repaired, disengaged, or driven, the squad leaves it in Neil's hands. He is also the favorite picking target of fellow squad member Jane Proudfoot.

Neil accompanies Gray to arrest Aki when she's finding the sixth spirit. A bit later, he and Ryan Whittaker play matchmaker with Gray and Aki, by accidentally-on-purpose disengaging the lift that Gray and Aki are in. They nearly kiss, but it's interrupted by Neil fixing the lift. Neil is the airship pilot when the Deep Eyes accompany Aki on her mission to find the seventh spirit.

When the Deep Eyes, Aki, and Dr. Sid are fleeing New York City after General Hein's betrayal, Neil drives the car. They reach Aki's airship, but it is locked. Neil and Jane go outside, Neil to disengage the lock and Jane to protect him. He disables the lock (during a Phantom attack which Jane fends off), but when he's done, he's killed by a Phantom sneaking up on him from behind. Then Jane willingly lets the Phantom kill her.
