Mythril Staff (ミスリルの杖, Misuriru no Tsue?) is a recurring staff in the series. It is part of the mythril equipment set.

Mythril Staff is a low-ranked staff that provides 12 Attack, 5 Accuracy, +3 Spirit, deals extra damage against undead enemies, and casts Basuna when used as an item in battle. It can be bought for 4,000 gil at Mythril or found in Mythril. It can be equipped by Tellah, Rydia (child), Porom, Rosa, Cecil, and Fusoya.

In the 3D versions, Mythril Staff now provides 11 Attack, 80 Accuracy, +2 Spirit, deals extra damage to undead enemies, and casts Basuna when used as an item during battle. It is obtained in the same manner as before, but can no longer be equipped by Cecil. If Golbez is hacked into the party, he'll be able to equip it.

Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-Edit

FFIV-I- Mythril Staff returns with the same attributes as before, and can only be equipped by Cecil, Rosa, and Porom. Only one can be obtained, being the initial weapon for Porom.

Final Fantasy IV: The After YearsEdit

FFIVTAY Mythril Staff returns with the same attributes as before minus the extra damage against undead enemies, and can now be equipped by Cecil, Ceodore, Rosa, Porom, Leonora, Harley, and Golbez. It can be bought for 4,000 gil at Mythril, initially equipped on Rosa, found in the Magic Floor of Porom's Challenge Dungeon, or dropped from Will Priest.

Mythril Staff is a low-ranked weapon for Penelo that provides, in its base form, 15 Attack, 30 Magic, and 12 Attack Speed. It is bought from Tomaj's Sky Saloon shop (Chapter 4) for 750 gil or forged (Artificer's Handbook).

Mythril Staff is the third strongest staff, providing 32 Attack, 5 Magic Resistance, +1 Jump, and teaches White Combo for 100 AP to White Mages, Pray Combo for 100 AP to Bishops, and Summon Combo for 100 AP to Summoners. They are occasionally given as rewards after random wandering clan battles and can be bought at Nono's shop if the player has a trading partner to help restock the shop.

Bravely DefaultEdit

BD Mythril Staff is the second weakest staff, providing 11 Attack, 90 Aim, and +2 Mind. It can be bought for 600 pg at Yulyana Woods Needleworks and Miasma Woods, or stolen from Chairman Profiteur.

Final Fantasy DimensionsEdit

FFD Mythril Staff is a low to mid-ranked staff that provides 23 Attack, 15 Hit Rate, and +5 Wisdom. Staves can be equipped by Jobless, Red Mage, White Mage, Summoner, Memorist, and Seer jobs. It is bought for 4500 gil from Rusalka, Aule and Castle Falgabard (from Mog).

EtymologyEdit

The word "mythril" or "mithril" is a metal found in many fantasy worlds. It was originally introduced by the fantasy writings of J. R. R. Tolkien, being present in his Middle-earth. It resembles silver but is stronger than steel, and much lighter in weight than either. The author first wrote of it in The Lord of the Rings, and it is retrospectively mentioned in the third, revised edition of The Hobbit in 1966. In the first 1937 edition, the mail shirt given to Bilbo is described as being made of "silvered steel". The name mithril comes from two words in Sindarin—mith, meaning "grey" or "mist", and ril meaning "glitter".
