Mysidia (ミシディアこく">ミシディア国, Mishidia Koku?, lit. "Country of Mysidia") is a town in the games Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. It was founded by the Sage Minwu, who drifted ashore 500 years before the events of the game. Practicing magic was initially a benevolent hobby accessible to everybody, but people eventually became corrupted by power and competition.

Minwu was enraged by this and sealed away magic, putting an end to the Old Age of Magic. He later restored magic but made it so that only certain persons could use it, and this became the start of the New Age of Magic. It is inhabited by wizards, and it is ruled by an elder. It is the hometown of Palom and Porom, and it is one end of the Devil's Road, which connects Baron and Mysidia. It is also home to the Tower of Prayers, where the Elder prays for those he cares about.

In the English localization of the Nintendo DS version, Mysidia is pronounced [mɨ̞ˈsɪ.di.ə].

The Dark Knight Cecil raids Mysidia early in the game in order to steal the Crystal of Water using Baron's Red Wings for the King. As a result, he becomes unwanted in Mysidia. He washes ashore near Mysidia after being attacked by Leviathan. The inhabitants of Mysidia, unforgiving of his actions, cast spells on him such as Toad, Pig, and Poison when he returns. He goes to see the Elder and explains that he was banished from Baron and is fighting Golbez. The Elder says that Cecil cannot defeat him using his Dark Sword, and that he must travel to Mount Ordeals and become a Paladin. The Elder sends Palom and Porom, not only to help him, but also to spy on him.

Cecil eventually returns successfully, and is wielding the Mythgraven Blade, much to the disbelief of the inhabitants. The Elder says that this sword is the one passed down in the Mysidian Legend. He then says that Cecil is the Chosen One, and must defeat Golbez. He then opens the Devil's Road so Cecil can get to Baron.

Cecil returns later in the game after Golbez has gathered all the Crystals. He is invited to pray with the Elder in the Tower of Prayers, and their prayers are answered with the Lunar Whale, the ship that can take Cecil to and from the Red Moon. After the Giant of Babil is destroyed, the Elder, Palom, Porom, Yang, Edward, Cid, King Giott, Luca, and others pray for Cecil to defeat Zemus on the moon.

Final Fantasy IV: The After YearsEdit

Ceodore Harvey and the Hooded Man reach Mysidia on their way to Baron. There, the Hooded Man suggests to go to the Devil's Road, a secret passage that leads to Baron. Both of them go to the Prayer's Hall where they meet Porom and they ask her about permission to pass the Devil's Road, Porom sends a White Mage and a Black Mage to guide them.

In Edge's Tale, he sends Tsukinowa to spy on Mysidia and gather information as a magic trainee named "Lapin". Tsukinowa eventually spies on Porom and follows her to Mt. Ordeals, returning to Edge when he sees the Tower of Babil glowing ominously.

In The Crystals, Rydia, Luca, Edge and the Man in Black come to Mysidia and engage Ramuh to rescue Porom and the village from his wrath.

Trouble with the audio sample?

Mysidia's theme, "Mysidia" (also known as "Mystic Mysidia") features some peculiar elements not found in many town themes throughout the series. Its fast tempo and the inclusion of a cuckoo bird's chirp within the rhythmic section are but a few of these. A rearranged version of the theme was included in the album Final Fantasy IV: Celtic Moon.
