Moss Fungus (モスフングス, Mosufungusu?), also known as Mossfungus or Mosfungus, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy V[]

Moss Fungus from FFV SNES sprite

Moss Fungus is an enemy encountered in the forest area of the Interdimensional Rift. At times, it appears with Farfarello and White Flame, and at other times with two more of its kind. Moss Fungus may use Knock Silly, a move which will confuse targets, although it is more inclined to use Web to inflict slow or Spore to poison targets. There is also a possibility of it using Rainbow Wind, which will drain HP from, blind, and silence targets.

If the Moss Fungus is caught and released, it will do nothing. It is susceptible to Level 2 Old, Level 3 Flare, and Level 4 Graviga.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

Moss Fungi are a family of seedkin first encountered in the Shadowbringers. The common Moss Fungus can be encountered as an enemy in Il Mheg Il Mheg. Their appearance is based on the Funguar from Final Fantasy XI, being quadrupedal ambulatory mushrooms, though Funguars in XIV are a separate family.

Final Fantasy Tactics[]

Barbaneth's Grave

Zalbaag discovers mossfungus on Barbaneth's grave.

For the Event, see Events (Tactics)#Mossfungus.

Mossfungus isn't an enemy, but a poisonous mushroom. Dycedarg Beoulve used mossfungus poison to kill his father Barbaneth. Barich Fendsor also uses Mossfungus poison to weaken Order of the Northern Sky prior to the Battle of Fort Besselat. It is mentioned by a chemist that when mossfungus grows on a grave, it is said to herald the end of that family's bloodline; less dramatically, mossfungus will also grow on the grave of those killed by its poison, which Zalbaag Beoulve uses to verify his father was poisoned.

Mossfungus appears as a trap in Melee battles, inflicting Poison on whomever triggered the trap.

Final Fantasy Dimensions[]

MossFungus-ffd

The Moss Fungus is an enemy encountered in the Challenge Dungeon during The Bard chapter. Since the Challenge Dungeons do not appear outside the original phone release, it is dummied in later releases and therefore not available in any English version of the game.
