Moon Phase is a new feature in Final Fantasy IV: The After Years. This new feature involves the moon into the gameplay. Depending of the type of moon, it will raise up White Magic, Black Magic, special abilities, and physical attacks. There are a total of four different phases and the player can change phases by staying at a Inn. Biggs and Wedge give an explanation of this system at the beginning of the game. Also some enemies will only appear during a specifically Moon Phase inside a certain area.

[edit] Types of phases
[edit] New Moon
The New Moon phase raises the power of abilities such as Jump, and will lower White Magic.
During this phase the following monster will appear:
- Red Dragon in the Impact Crater.
- Behemoth in the Path to the Tower of Babil.
- Gil Bird in Edward's Challenge Dungeon (West Passage 2F).
- Ebony Dragon in the Lunar Tunnel.
- Red Dragon in the Lunar Subterrane (B10).
[edit] Waning Moon
The Waning Moon phase will improve physical attacks, but makes special abilities weaker.
During this phase the following monster will appear:
- Grey Coeurl in the Devil's Road.
- Green Dragon in the Agart Mine.
- Gil Bird in Edward's Challenge Dungeon (Tower 4F).
- Green Dragon in Lunar Subterrane (B9).
[edit] Full Moon
The Full Moon phase raises Black Magic, but physical attacks will be weaker. Also the Sand Pearl an the entrance to the Adamant Grotto can only be obtained in this phase.
During this phase the following monster will appear:
- Thunder Dragon in the Mist Cave.
- Gil Bird (9,999 gil) in Palom's Challenge Dungeon (Mountain Floor).
- Gil Bird in Edward's Challenge Dungeon (Tower 2F).
- Flan Princess in Lunar Subterrane (B5).
[edit] Waxing Moon
The Waxing Moon phase will improve White Magic and lower Black Magic.
During this phase the following monster will appear:
- Quarto Puppet in the Agart Mine (Empty room in B4).
- White Dragon in Mt. Ordeals.
- Gil Bird in Edward's Challenge Dungeon (Boss Room 4F).
- Shadow Dragon in Lunar Subterrane (B5).
- White Dragon in Lunar Subterrane (B8).
