Moogle Dance (モーグリダンス, Mōguri Dansu?) is a recurring ability and phenomenon in the Final Fantasy series that involves moogles dancing. Mog in Final Fantasy VI is an optional character whose character class is a mix between Dancer and a Geomancer, able to perform a variety of different dances depending on the terrain. Later dancing moogles have appeared as a callback to Mog, but despite Mog having a variety of skills in his arsenal, including offensive ones, the other Moogle Dance skills are supporting abilities.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy VI[]

Mog knows the Dance command and learns new dances by ending battles on different terrains. If Mog wants to use a dance of a different terrain than the current battleground, he may stumble and fail the dance.

Final Fantasy VII[]

Cait Sith can perform Mog Dance by lining up three star symbols in his Slots Limit Break. A Mog appears and performs a dance, fully recovering the party's HP and MP.

Final Fantasy VIII[]

Moogle Dance is MiniMog's summon ability, used via the MiniMog command. A Guardian Force can learn the MiniMog command via the Mog's Amulet item, available only from the Chocobo World minigame or from Angelo Search in the Remastered. Moogle Dance restores HP to all junctioned Guardian Forces, this being the only way a player can heal Guardian Forces during battle.

Final Fantasy XII[]

The Moogles Eight are a group of singing and dancing moogles in Old Archades. Their abductor, the Shady Seeq, is trying to sell them off after tricking them with promises of food from around the world. The player can view their dance by interacting with the moogles, and is offered multiple viewpoints of their dance.

Final Fantasy Dimensions[]

Moogle Dance is a Fusion Ability that decreases DEF and RES of all enemies. It can be performed by the Warriors of Darkness for 40 MP by fusing Call + Frailty Polka.

Final Fantasy Dimensions II[]

In the free-to-play version, Moogle Dance is the summon ability of Alba, Warrior of Darkness from Final Fantasy Dimensions. Once again, it lowers the stats of all enemies, this time lowering attack, magic attack, and speed of all enemies for 3 turns. Two units of gauge are consumed.

Etymology[]

The moogle's Japanese name, Mōguri (モーグリ), is a portmanteau of the words for mole (土竜, mogura?) and bat (蝙蝠, kōmori?). "Moogle" is the localized version of Mōguri, losing the pun, though "moogle" has started to appear in Japanese sources as well.
