FFIVPSP Mirage

Mirage in Final Fantasy IV.

Creates illusion of one's self to confuse the enemy.

Description

Mirage (ぶんしん, Bunshin?, lit. Clone), also known as Image, Twin, Target Dummy, and Mirror is a recurring ability in the Final Fantasy series. It is a Ninjutsu spell, and acts similar to the spell Blink, creating two illusory copies of the caster to render them immune to the next two physical attacks targeted at them, each attack instead dispelling one of the copies.

Appearance

Final Fantasy IV

Template:Sideicon Edge learns Mirage at Level 38. It has a casting time of 0 and costs 6 MP to cast.

Final Fantasy IV -Interlude-

Template:Sideicon Edge retains Mirage, which functions identically to how it does in the base game.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

Template:Sideicon Edge and Tsukinowa can cast Mirage, which works the same as it did in the original game. Edge learns Mirage at Level 32, while Tsukinowa knows the ability innately.

Create illusions to absorb two direct physical attacks.

Description

The Ninja can use Image as a command ability, learned at Job level 2. Image works the same as Blink, creating two copies of the user to dodge attacks. Due to a minor glitch, once one of the copies has vanished, using Image a second time will create a third copy, allowing the user to dodge three attacks.

Final Fantasy VI

Template:Sideicon The Shadow Scroll (かげぶんしん, Kage Bunshin?) acts as a substitute for the command. Throwing the Shadow Edge is one of only three ways to gain Blink status, the other two being the Fenrir summon and the Mirage Vest.

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light

Template:Sideicon The Ninja's Target Dummy ability creates two copies of the character that work as decoys, letting the character evade enemies' attacks.

Final Fantasy Dimensions

Template:Sideicon

Creates an image of self to avoid two physical attacks.

Description

Mirage is the level 17 ability of the Ninja class, requiring 475 AP to learn. At the cost of 6 MP, the user will be granted Blink status, enabling them to avoid the next two physical attacks aimed at them.

Etymology

Mirages are naturally-occurring, optical phenomena in which light rays are bent to produce displaced images of distant objects. The word "mirage" is of French origin and derived from the Latin mirari, which means "to look at" or "to wonder at".
