Allow me to introduce myself properly: I'm Midras. Charmed, I'm sure.
What's the fool prattling on about now? Always a bit big for his britches.
Midras is a male hume wearing an apron with the Blacksmith Guild emblem. He has face #3 of those available for players, but his hair is hidden by a hardhat.
Midras is as intelligent as would be expected of the son of Cid, and a little condescending for it. Although they use the nicknames "Pops" and "Junior", Cid and Midras appear to have trouble communicating directly. Cid appears to speak of his son as an underling, but his tough love approach belies his pride, much like Jecht to Tidus.
Midras arrived in Adoulin by ship across the "tumultuous sea of Zafmlug", and references their lack of food and the danger of deep-sea threats no longer faced since the advent of waypoints. In spite of this trial, he is grateful for the opportunity to join the Inventor's Coalition, having learned much by joining them.
With the population explosion since the start of Ulbuka's recent colonization efforts, food supplies have waned. Midras traveled to the Sih Gates to survey for a new mineral to use in fertilizer, where the player first meets him. He asks the player to bring word to Cid that he needs a new explosive compound for his research.
Upon returning with Cid's compound, Midras uses it to create an explosive chemical reaction, and asks the player to return to the Inventor's Coalition with the mineral unearthed by the blast.
As soon as the player leaves, a voice addresses Midras as "Omega" over linkpearl, requesting a report. It is revealed that Midras is one of many spies whose employer is unknown. He is investigating Adoulin's societal infrastructure and technologies, but has yet to uncover the secrets of runic technology and geomancy. The voice instructs him not to worry about Geomancy and get on with the mission. Little do they know that Hektor of the Peacekeeper' Coalition is eavesdropping nearby.
"Mid" is a common name given to male direct relatives of Cids in the Final Fantasy series. The name first appeared in Final Fantasy V (and by extension, the Legend of the Crystals OVA) as that of Cid's grandson, then was later alluded to in Balthier's birth name and in the name of Cid Garlond's father, Midas.
