Mictlantecihuatl is a boss in Final Fantasy XV fought in the Steyliff Grove maze for the sidequest A Menace Sleeps in Steyliff. It is a tougher variant of the boss fought in Steyliff as part of the story.

Although mictlantecihuatl is not a true daemon, it is partially daemonic, as reflected by the description of the Rotten Splinterbone it drops, and thus its attacks detract from maximum HP even on characters not in danger. It shares this unusual characteristic with the bloodhorn.

Bestiary[]

Lighter-colored subspecies of quetzalcoatl that haunts the inner sanctum of Steyliff Grove where light does not reach. Despite spending most of its time confined to the caverns, the mictlantechihuatl will occasionally spread its wings and soar around outside in search of prey.
Size: 58.17 ft. Weight: 60.38 t

Though the bestiary description states that the mictlantechihuatl will "occasionally spread its wings and soar around outside in search of prey", the Menace Dungeons, are said to be sealed to keep its denizens locked away.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Mictlantecihuatl uses both physical and magical attacks, and its attacks damage the player's max HP. Its magic attacks are lightning-elemental and capable of inflicting Shocked status; it charges electricity into its being while grounded and then releases it all around itself, the sparks traveling across the floor, or it shoots a volley of electricity from its mouth.

Mictlantecihuatl is weak to polearms, daggers and ice. It can fly and the player can target its various body parts separately. When flying, the mictlantecihuatl soars across the party and claws at them (can be block/parried). When grounded, it charges at the party and stomps on them (can be block/parried). When made vulnerable, it lies on the floor and does not fight back for a time.

Strategy[]

Equipping for lightning-protection and Spirit may be helpful. Some food buffs also make the party immune to lightning damage. If the player has no lightning-protection, they can invoke a Technique as the boss is charging electricity to have the tech animation coincide with the boss's lightning attack, and thus be invulnerable to its damage.

Ignis's Enhancement can bestow Noctis's weapon with the ice element. When the boss is vulnerable, the player gets a good change to repeatedly attack with fast weapons like daggers, of which mictlantecihuatl is weak to. Using Cerberus in scope mode (easier in Wait Mode) on the boss's wing when it flies may be a good way to stagger it and make it fall on the floor. Armiger and Armiger Unleashed are powerful.
