The Metal Gigantuar is a special enemy from Final Fantasy XIII-2. An elite enemy appearing from a rift, the Metal Gigantuar can easily destroy an unprepared party.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Shortly after the battle starts, the Metal Gigantuar will begin counting down from 7. When the count reaches 0, the Metal Gigantuar will use 10,000 Needles, dealing damage across the entire party. After a few rounds, it will begin counting down to 10,000 Needles again. The Metal Gigantuar only has 7,777 HP, though it has strong resistances.

Strategy[]

The Metal Gigantuar is not quite as fearsome a foe as it may first appear. Because of its low HP total, it can be defeated without the party being on the receiving end of too many 10,000 Needles.

The player should form the Cerberus (COM/COM/COM), Salvation (MED/MED/MED), and Tortoise (SEN/SEN/SEN) paradigms. Consolidation (SEN/SEN/MED) can work as well, though it requires more work. If Serah and Noel both have Reprieve, the battle will be easier.

The player should begin with Cerberus, depleting as much HP from the Metal Gigantuar as possible before its countdown ceases. Once its countdown reaches two, the player should switch to Tortoise or Consolidation and defend. After the Metal Gigantuar uses 10,000 Needles, the player should switch to Salvation to heal above yellow HP, then switch to Cerberus and resume the assault.

Another effective strategy for a stronger party is to start with either Relentless Assault (COM/RAV/RAV) or Tri-disaster (RAV/RAV/RAV). The player should use a round or two to drive up the chain gauge as much as possible (starting with a preemptive strike helps). The player should use either Meteor Javelin or Ultima Arrow and switch to Cerberus to maximize the damage caused. Since both attacks ignore the Metal Gigantuar's damage resistances, it should be either dead or at least close to it.

With this method, the party can defeat the Metal Gigantuar quickly and without taking any damage.

Paradigm Pack[]

One of the Metal Gigantuar's real strengths is recruiting monsters with its "Daze" Feral Link, easily racking up a synchronization of 777% with a simple rotation of the analog stick.

Behind the scenes[]

GrayCactuar

A cactuar with a mustache called Gigantuar Prime is found in The Seventh Ark, a dummied area in Final Fantasy XIII, but this enemy's AI was left unfinished and it is not textured. A finished version of this model features in Final Fantasy XIII-2 as the Metal Gigantuar.
