Meonekton Ω is an enemy in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. It is a Last One that appears when there is only one Meonekton left in Nova Chrysalia, but due to the extremely high population of Meonekton, the only practical way to face it is in the Ultimate Lair; Lightning would need to defeat 65,535 Meonektons for the Last One to spawn otherwise.

Battle Edit

Meonekton Ω uses the same battle style as a normal Meonekton.

Strategy Edit

Due to its high Magic stat, Lightning can equip Preta Hood to reduce the damage from its Ruin.

The best strategy is to inflict it with Deprotect or Deshell to increase damage output and use elemental attacks, such as Flamestrike.

Etymology Edit

A nekton is a subcategory of ocean-dwelling creatures capable of free movement independent of water currents, as opposed to plankton, which cannot. This includes vertebrates such as fish, molluscs such as squid, and crustaceans such as crabs or lobsters. Like all enemies of the Rift Beast class, the name is derived from a real class of living organism that also forms part of an ancient clade of the evolutionary tree, referring to their origins in the Void Beyond.

Meonekton's Japanese name is "Meiobenthos". Meiobenthos, also called meiofauna, are small benthic invertebrates that live in both marine and fresh water environments. The term "meiobenthos" was first coined in 1942 by Mare, but organisms that would fit into the meiofauna category have been studied since the 18th century. A good comprehensive text on meiofauna is Introduction to the study of meiofauna by Higgins and Thiel (1988).
