FFD Mazewood

Mazewood.

Mazewood (迷いの森, Mayoi no Mori?) is a forest in Final Fantasy Dimensions. It is an enchanted area, wherein adventurers lose their way and never come back. The enchantment is meant to keep Alfheim, the hidden city of the Elves, from human discovery.

Story[]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

When the party arrives at Mazewood, they are forced into battle by a group of scouts, presumably from the hidden Elven settlement. After the battle, the party sees an airship heading for the World Tree and the party continue on to the hidden village, realizing it is the most feasible choice to take to find her missing companions.

FF Dimensions Mazewood Campsite

Old man met at the camp site.

After a while of walking through the enchanted maze, the party finds a safe area where they set up camp. While Diana sleeps, Alba and Glaive discuss the nature of Glaive's relationship with Diana. An old blind man appears and joins the party at the campsite, but he does not appear to be in his right mind. Nacht asks the old man where the Elven homeland is, a question the old man cannot answer as he develops a sudden headache. The old man avoids broaching that subject and talks how dangerous Mazewood can become, urging the party to return to Verde. The old man walks into the northern bushes and disappears, leaving the party mystified.

FF Dimensions Aerith Reference

Alba makes a Final Fantasy VII reference.

After resting for the night, the party continues their journey through Mazewood until they encounter a wounded beast and Diana uses a cure spell on it. Healed, the beast acts more like a dog, coddling with Diana. The old man comes out, and fires an arrow toward Diana and the beast. An imperial soldier walks out from where the arrow hit, slumping onto the grass, dead in his tracks. The party realizes the old man is a skilled marksman despite his blindness. The old man offers to take the party to the Elven homeland due to Diana healing the beast. Glaive asks for his name and the old man jokes with the party, calling himself Clou-- before being interrupted by Alba calling herself Aeri--. Feeling bested the old man allows the party to name him as they like, leading to Gramps joining the party. Gramps proves himself an asset as they make their way out of Mazewood and to north, discovering for themselves the hidden village of the Elves, Alfheim.
