Marquis Malboro is an enemy fought at the end of the Path to Babil in the Final Tale of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years.

Battle Edit

Marquis Malboro is a decently powerful foe, as it can use Bad Breath to inflict multiple statuses on a party member, counters magic attacks by casting Reflect on itself, counters physicals by casting Protect on itself, can heal HP with Heal, inflict Sleep to a party member with Sleeping Gas, and inflict major non-elemental damage to the party using Earthquake. The player will not be able to avoid Earthquake as there is no means to cast Float at this point in the game.

Strategy Edit

One strategy is to leave Rydia on healing duties by using Sylph, or have Luca use items to heal while Edge uses Heal Pill. Golbez should focus on either attacking with Quake or physical attacks.

Etymology Edit

"Malboro" may derive from the Japanese onomatopoeia boro, the sound of an upset stomach. Their name is most likely derived from the Latin and Greek words mal (meaning bad) and boros (meaning breath), a reference to their infamous attack. The name could also be a reference to Marlboro Cigarettes, since the creatures often spew horrid fumes.
