Mardu Entite is an enemy in Final Fantasy XII. It is the Lightning-elemental entite found in the Toam Hills on the Giza Plains during the Rains; specifically during thunderstorms when there is lightning among the rainclouds. It is also fought in the Zodiac versions' Trial Mode at Stage 74 along with four Storm Elementals where an Elixir can be rarely stolen from it.

Bestiary entry[]

Page 1: Observations[]

Tales of the people speak oft of the wrathful gods visiting man with lightning, and the remorseful gods weeping the rain that follows. For this did peasants once light fires, sending smoke up to the heavens in hopes it would cause the eyes of the gods to water, irrigating their crops. Yet these fires did naught but incur once more the gods' wrath, and in a rage, they sent rainless lightning down to blast and scorch those who had offended.
It is said these bolts gave birth to the mardu entite.

Page 2: The Entite Pact[]

How better to quell the lightning's blind rage, to still the mindless roar of her answering thunder, than by drawing a cold veil of ice around it, cold enough to freeze passion itself? So will the dark clouds part and let shine through a light as brilliant as the sun: the light of electrum.

Stats[]

  1. The Original Japanese Guidebook cites the Mardu Entites' MP as being 16500, but subsequent guides list it as 999.

Battle[]

Mardu Entite uses Silencega, Sleepga, and Fear, the latter of which reduces one character's MP. Its attack spell is Thundaga, which can be protected against by wearing a Rubber Suit. It is docile, but attacks when provoked or when magick is used nearby. It should be avoided during the party's first visit to Giza during the Rains, as it is the most powerful Entite offensively along with the Salamand Entite.

Trial Mode[]

Trial Mode.

Mardu Entite is fought alongside four storm elementals in Stage 74. One strategy is to use a Remedy on the entite while wearing a Nihopalaoa and move away when it will be immobilized. The player can also use the Immobilize spell (will always work with Indigo Pendant equipped). The party can then take out the regular elementals first. Lightning-resistant equipment works well.

Etymology[]

Mardu Entite is named after Marduk. Marduk is the Babylonian deity of thunder and lightning. The name is an allusion to Vagrant Story, where the player could get a nose-ring said to have been owned by Marduk, the storm deity, as an accessory. The Japanese name instead references Maruts a group of Hindu deities of storm, sons of Rudra.
