Attacks with the wind spell Aero, and revives with Pearl Wind.

Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry

The Marchosias, also called Harpiai, is an enemy in Final Fantasy VI.

Stats

Battle

It mostly uses normal attacks, and its special attack Talon is a stronger normal blow. It has a 33% chance to use Aero on its second turn. It is weak to wind, so any Wind-elemental weapons the party has work well, as does Strago's own Aero.

The Marchosias can be transformed into a Growth Egg by Ragnarok. However, it only has a 25% chance of this occurring, otherwise it becomes a Potion. Furthermore, Ragnarok only effects the Marchosias 57.1% of the time, reducing the chances of getting a Growth Egg to approximately 14%.

Etymology

In demonology, Marchosias is Great Marquis of Hell, commanding thirty legions of demons. Marchosias comes from the late Latin word marchio meaning "marquis".

It has also been known as Harpiai. In Greek and Roman mythology, a harpy was a female monster in the form of a bird with a human face. They steal food from their victims while they are eating and carry evildoers (especially those who have killed their family) to the Erinyes. They seem originally to have been wind spirits. Their name means "snatchers".
