FFIVA Magnetize

Cecil under Magnetize in Final Fantasy IV.

Magnetize (じりょく, Jiryoku?) is a negative status effect that hinders characters who are wearing metallic equipment.

Final Fantasy IVEdit

FFIVDS Magnetize Symbol

Magnetize only occurs during the first run through the Lodestone Cavern and prevents characters with metallic equipment from taking action. It's similar to the Paralyze status effect, except that it cannot be cured once it has taken effect in battle. If all characters are in Magnetize status at the start of a battle, the game is immediately over because nobody can perform any action.

Once the player reaches the Dark Elf and Edward plays his harp, the magnetic field will be lifted, allowing the party to safely equip metallic equipment. All equipment sold in Troia prior to coming to the Lodestone Cavern is meant to be used for traversing the cavern, as none of it is metallic in nature. In the Easy Type version, the Piglet Sword acquired at Baron Castle can safely be used as it's not considered a metallic weapon, making the Lodestone Cavern easier.

Final Fantasy XIIEdit

Magnetize against Vinuskar.

Magnetize is a battle condition in the battle against Vinuskar in the Stilshrine of Miriam where all metallic equipment slows down the wearer, and even spells take longer to cast. If the party equip any swords, hammers, axes, and the like, they could take three times as much Charge Time to dish out a single attack. Curiously, guns are unaffected.

In the battle against Ultima, when her HP drops down to around 70%, she begins cycling among various hindrances to inflict upon the party, among which is Magnetize.
