A wide-brimmed hat mainly made of felt and favored by those who use magic. It is a must-have item among some young female magic users, ranking up there with cat ears.
Sage's Miter (Mage's Hat for the Easy Type version) can be equipped by mages, and is Fusoya's starting helmet. It can be bought in the Dwarven Castle for 2,000 gil. It grants 5 defense, 8% evade, 7 magic defense, and 7% magic evade.
The Mage's Hat is a mid-ranked hat that provides +14 Magic Defense, +1 Magic, increases the power of Holy and Shadow-elemental attacks, and teaches Fira and Loudmouth. It can be purchased for 600 gil from Cleyra, Lindblum (disc 2), Fossil Roo, Daguerreo (disc 4), and the Black Mage Village (disc 2/3). It can only be equipped by Vivi, Dagger, Eiko, and Quina.
In the original version, Mage's Hat is a low to mid-ranked hat that provides +10 MP, +21 Magick Resist, and +5 Magick Power. It can be bought for 2,500 gil at Rabanastre, Jahara, and Mt Bur-Omisace, and requires the Mystic Armor 5 license for 25 LP.
In the Zodiac versions, Mage's Hat now provides 21 Magick Resist, +50 MP, +5 Magick Power, and requires the Mystic Armor 5 license for 30 LP. It can be bought in Eruyt Village and Mt Bur-Omisace for 2,500 gil, found as a treasure in Golmore Jungle (The Needlebrake) and Paramina Rift (Head of the Silverflow) and Trial Mode Stage 63 (with Diamond Armlet), or poached from Wu (5%). It can be equipped by the White Mage, Red Battlemage, Black Mage, and Bushi.
The power of suggestion can sometimes bring hidden potential to light. Magical power is indeed important to mages, but lack of self-confidence can cause their success rates and power output to fluctuate greatly. In the past, mages used their elaborate robes to shape themselves into characters that instilled fear in others. This hat serves the same function, except that not only does it boast of special properties, but it also seems to give the wearer a bit too much confidence in the practice of magic.
