MSX is a home computer architecture from the 1980s.
It was conceived by Kazuhiko Nishi, Vice-president at Microsoft Japan and Director at ASCII Corporation at the time. It is said that Microsoft led the project as an attempt to create unified standards among hardware makers.
Before the appearance of the Famicom, it was the platform for which major Japanese game studios, such as Konami and Hudson Soft, usually produced their titles.
