Ships, also known as Boats (, Fune?), are a common form of transportation in the Final Fantasy series. They are used to travel the high seas.

The Warriors of Light obtain a pirate ship from Bikke the Pirate and his men in Pravoka, after defeating them in battle. The boat can be used to travel around areas in the lower continent, like Elfheim. It can only land at docks or, when the Canoe is found, at rivers.


Final Fantasy II[]

Leila and her gang of pirates are hired to bring Firion and his party to Deist, where she then double-crosses them and attacks. Once she is defeated, she joins the party, and thus gives them access to her boat.

Final Fantasy III[]

Enterprise[]

A Viking in the Viking Base gives the party the Enterprise in exchange for defeating the Nepto Dragon. Later, it is modified by Cid using the "Wheel of Time" to transform it into an airship.

Cecil Harvey, Yang Fang Leiden, Edward Chris von Muir, and Rydia travel by boat to attack Baron and save Rosa Joanna Farrell. However, along the way, Leviathan attacks and destroys the ship and the party is scattered around the world. Cecil awakes in Mysidia.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years[]

Unnamed Ship[]

Three unnamed ships are seen in total. One is used by Palom to travel to Troia at the start of his tale. Later, the same boat is used by Izayoi to return to Eblan. Another is used by Edward and Harley to travel to Baron from Kaipo port. The third is used by Yang and Ursula to also travel to Baron, although it is damaged and they land to collect palm oil in hopes of fixing it. Once they set out again, the ship is attacked by Leviathan.

When the wind died, it was Syldra who pulled Faris's pirate ship across the oceans.

Fire-Powered Ship[]

The Fire-Powered Ship is the kingdom of Karnak's flagship. Designed by Cid Previa, it uses the power of the Fire Crystal to sail without relying on the wind. However, the crystal amplifier powering the ship places strain on the Fire Crystal, shattering it and rendering the ship immobile.

Cid and his grandson Mid later remodel the ship to sail without the Fire Crystal, and the player party uses it to travel to Crescent. Unfortunately, the ship gets sucked into the Catapult during an earthquake. It remains there for the rest of the game.

Ronkan Airship[]

The Ronkan airship can land on water and thus be used as a boat. It was built by an ancient civilization, the Ronkans, and is discovered in the Catapult.

Xezat's Fleet[]

Xezat's Fleet is composed of an entire fleet of ships, along with Xezat's flagship.

Ferry[]

A ferry is used as a ferry service between the ports of South Figaro and Nikeah, and it continues it services even after the world ends. Leviathan can attack it in the World of Ruin, but only in the Advance and smartphone versions.

Magitek Armor Transport Ship[]

The Gestahlian Empire supplies the party, along with General Leo, with a Magitek armor transport ship, to go on a goodwill mission to Crescent Island in search for the espers.

Final Fantasy VII[]

Cargo Ship[]

A Cargo Ship connects the ports of Junon and Costa del Sol. Rufus Shinra uses it to travel to the western continent to find Sephiroth, while Cloud's party comes onboard as stowaways. Afterwards, it can be used freely for 250 gil, and can transport the buggy to the eastern continent.

Tiny Bronco[]

Though originally a small plane, the Tiny Bronco is shot down by Shinra soldiers, and crashes into the ocean. Afterwards it is used as a crude boat, traveling through shallow water and rivers, until it disappears in disc 2.

Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-[]

Zack boards an unnamed Shinra boat on his vacation to Costa del Sol. He can also attend certain missions on it.

Final Fantasy VIII[]

Balamb Garden[]

Balamb Garden.

The Balamb Garden can land on water and be used as a ship. It can only ascend on land from beaches.

SeeD Assault Boat[]

SeeD Assault Boat.

A hydrofoil known as the SeeD Assault Boat is used in the amphibious landing at the Siege of Dollet.

White SeeD Ship[]

The White SeeD Ship.

The White SeeD Ship is used by the White SeeD to protect Ellone.

Final Fantasy IX[]

Blue Narciss[]

Zidane's party uses the Blue Narciss to escape Alexandria after its destruction by Garland. It is then used to travel to the Outer Continent to attack Kuja. Regent Cid extracts components from the Blue Narciss to make the Hilda Garde III.

Alexandrian Fleet[]

Queen Brahne leads the Alexandrian naval forces, which consists of a sizable fleet capable of cannon fire. The ships are commandeered by both Alexandrian soldiers and by black mages. Brahne brings a large portion of her navy to the Iifa Tree's shores with the intent of ridding Kuja from her plans for world domination. The Queen summons Bahamut, but her strategy backfires when Kuja calls the Invincible and takes control of the eidolon. Kuja orders Bahamut to wipe Brahne out with a devastating Mega Flare attack, destroying her and the majority of her fleet.

Garnet and her mother traveled to Alexandria long before the game's start on a tiny boat. Zidane and Garnet find a similar boat in Madain Sari which triggers Garnet's memories.

A small canal boat is also used to ferry people between Alexandria castle and the town.


Final Fantasy X[]

Salvage Ship[]

After Tidus sees his Zanarkand destroyed by Sin, he is rescued by the Al Bhed on their ship. He is knocked off the boat when Sin reappears, eventually waking in Besaid.

S.S. Liki[]

The S.S. Liki is a ferry ship that connects Besaid and Kilika.

S.S. Winno[]

The S.S. Winno is another ship that connects Kilika and Luca.

Al Bhed Psyches' Ship[]

When Yuna is abducted in Luca; Tidus, Lulu and Kimahri fight the Oblitzerator on this ship to save her.

Ferries[]

There are three ferries available for player's use. They transport players back and forth between Selbina to Mhaura, Mhaura and Aht Urhgan, and from Whitegate to Nashmau. All of the ferries cost 100 gil to ride. Traveling between Selbina and Mhaura requires no special effort, but in order to get to Aht Urhgan Whitegate, players must complete a quest to get a "Boarding Permit".

Manaclipper[]

The Manaclipper is a different sort of ship. It operates as a sea tour for people wanting to see the beautiful waters around Bibiki Bay. This is also one of the only ways to get to the tropical island of Purgonorgo. You can pass on a trip to Purgonorgo Isle with a Manaclipper ticket, which costs 80 gil, or a Manaclipper multi-ticket, which costs 500 gil for 10 passes.

Carpenter's Barge[]

A series of unnamed barges run up and down the Phanauet Channel, ferrying wood between the Kingdom of San d'Oria and the various docks of Carpenter's Landing, near the Jugner Forest. The player can board this barge to travel between these areas and to go fishing. The barge features a strange pair of non-hostile Tonberries which light the way for the barge at night. In order for one to travel on the barge, you need to buy either a ticket, which can be bought for 50 gil, or a multi-ticket worth 10 passes for 300 gil.

Final Fantasy XII[]

Reddas, the leader of Balfonheim Port, dispatches a fleet of ships to the Ridorana Cataract, only to have them all sunk by the powerful tides. Vaan can cross the river of Nebra on Dalmasca Estersand by boat, which is also used for the fishing minigame.

Final Fantasy XIV[]

There is a ferry that transports players back and forth between Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah.

Final Fantasy XV[]

Ferries usually run between the resort of Galdin Quay and the capital of Accordo, Altissia, but when Noctis Lucis Caelum and his party try to board the ferry they find it is not running. Noctis later finds a secret harbor with a boat belonging to King Regis, the royal vessel, which they can use to get to Altissia. Noctis steers the boat alone after he awakens in Angelgard in Chapter 14. The Windows and Royal Editions make the vessel playable.

The city modeled after real-world Venice, Altissia, has many gondolas the party can hitch a ride in, as well as various ships in its vicinity, some of which get later sucked into Leviathan's whirlpool.

In Final Fantasy XV: Episode Ignis, Ignis Scientia steers a speed boat.

Final Fantasy XVI[]

Two named sea vessels feature in the story: Cid and Mid's The Enterprise, a new type of ship propelled by mythril engines, making it the fastest ship on Valisthea, and the Kingdom of Waloed's flagship The Einherjar. Both are massive galleys, the Enterprise with red sails and the Einherjar with gray.

Final Fantasy Tactics[]

Unnamed Ship[]

After being trapped by the forces of the Cardinal Delacroix at the Clockwork City of Goug, Ramza Beoulve and his party travel by ship to the Port City of Warjilis. The boat is never actually seen, and the movement is shown only as a regular path going over the ocean. A few masts can be seen in the background when Delita Heiral confronts Ramza.

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest[]

Mac's Ship[]

The sailing ship of Captain Mac, which also serves as a dungeon. After being rescued, Mac lends Benjamin his ship so that he and Phoebe can sail to the base of the Focus Tower.

Final Fantasy Legend II[]

Echigoya's Ship[]

Echigoya's ship serves as a dungeon, its station in the harbor in Edo World. Echigoya smuggles bananas (opium in the Japanese version) into Edo with his ship.

Final Fantasy Legend III[]

FFLIII Ferryboat

Shipwrecks can be found in the past, present, and the future of the World across the Seafloor. Once the party arrives in Pureland, the party is force to use ferryboats to ferry between continents since the Talon cannot cross the ocean upon arrival.

Final Fantasy Dimensions[]

A Pirate Ship is dock at the port of Capo, the party uses this ship to travel to Pirate Island so they can meet the boss of the pirates.

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light[]

I've prepared a boat for you outside the city. Remember, it can only land on beaches.

Thauzand

Thauzand supplies Jusqua with a ship so that he can chase the Sorcerer. The ship can land on the beach where the player can get on and off the ship. The ship is gone after the darkness engulfs the world.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles[]

The Ferryman Tristan takes the party to several locations via boat, including across the Jegon River, Lynari Island and Mount Kilanda.

Final Fantasy All the Bravest[]

The party uses an unnamed boat to cross the sea and battles monster aboard the ship when crossing the sea on the South Figaro Sea.
