FFIX Ore Icon

Jewels (宝石, Houseki?) in Final Fantasy IX are items, usable for healing HP only within battle, and they can be equipped as add-ons. Jewels can be equipped by anyone, and some teach either Dagger or Eiko a few selectable summons. Also, in Garnet's case, Jewels boost certain summons' attack power, while in Eiko's case, they may also change the effect or element of specific summon's attack.

Friendly MonstersEdit

On the world map, the party may encounter certain Friendly Enemies that will not attack. Rather, they ask for a particular jewel. After the jewel is given to the friendly enemy, the party is rewarded with AP. Most of the enemies only ask for Ore, but the later ones will request rarer jewels, but will also give rare jewels in return. Starting with the Nymph, the rarer jewels given out are those required by the next Friendly Enemy in the sequence.

Other AppearancesEdit

Dissidia Final FantasyEdit

The Aquamarine, Emerald, Diamond, Moonstone, Ruby, Peridot, Sapphire, Opal, Topaz, and Lapis Lazuli all appear as trade accessories in Dissidia Final Fantasy.

TriviaEdit

  • The jewels are based on the birthstones. As such, when equipping as an add-on and if the player has all twelve jewels in their inventory (minus Ore), the jewels are listed in the same order as the birthstones where each gemstone represents a month.
  • The Ruby is the only jewel that does not augment the power of an eidolon.
