Though his confidence falters after finding out that he is an instrument of destruction that will one day "stop", though his encounters with his companions and fellow black mages, he finds the courage to face the devastating truth about his identity.

	A beautiful and cruel angel of death who sought to destroy the world of Gaia from the inside out. Whispering in the ear of Alexandria's Queen Brahne, he convinces her of the advantage of using summons and artificial black mages, created from the Mist, to achieve her goals. In doing so, he achieves his won goal: a war that spreads across every corner of the continent. Kuja possesses an androgynous beauty, an unforgiving pride and sadistic disdain for others. His flair for dramatic speeches reveals his narcissistic tendencies as well. He looks down on all other creatures, including Queen Brahne and the black mages he creates, as no more than pawns in his game.

	A beautiful and cruel angel of death who sought to destroy the world of Gaia from the inside out. In truth he is a Genome, an artificial lifeform created to host the souls of the people of Terra, another world that seeks to merge with Gaia. He receives his orders from Garland, a being whose aim to safeguard Terra's future. To throw Gaia into confusion and aid the Terrans' takeover, Kuja uses Queen Brahne of Alexandria and others as tools in his dark schemes. He is an older sibling of sorts to Zidane, but when he saw the potential within his "little brother" and the hopes pinned upon him, he abandoned the child Zidane on Gaia.

	A beautiful and cruel angel of death who sought to destroy the world of Gaia from the inside out. He is a Genome, an artificial life that should not have independent will-and yet he does. Despite this "flaw," he is ordered by Garland to throw Gaia into chaos and help their home world absorb it. He plots to betray Garland, who sees him as no mere than a tool to be used. But he falls into a spiral of despair when he learns that his lifespan is nearly spent and becomes self-destructive, intending to take the entire world down with him.

	A young man who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. He is a lone orphan, adopted as a small child by the troupe of theatrical thieves known as Tantalus, and their leader, Baku. He was raised by Tantalus and considers the group his family, but even having such a home cannot erase his longing to discover his true roots. He has a bright and cheery disposition, and a strong sense of justice for a thief, but his womanizing tendencies keep the shine off of this diamond in the rough. The moment he spots a cute girl, he will pull out every trick in his bag to try to pick her up.

	A young man who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. He is a member of the Tantalus Theater Troupe, a band of traveling thieves who attempt to kidnap Princess Garnet of Alexandria. Finding himself captivated by Garnet, who is troubled by the changes in her beloved mother's behavior, he pledges himself to her cause. As they set out on a journey together with the young black mage Vivi and an Alexandrian knight named Steiner, he comes closer to the truth about the two moons in Gaia's night sky, and the roots he has searched for all his life.

On a quest to help Princess Garnet of Alexandria save her kingdom, he learns of the existence of Terra, a foreign planet trying to take over Gaia and replace its people. Confronted with the knowledge that he is not, in fact, human, but a tool create by Terrans to take over Gaia, he is overwhelmed by a self-destructive despair. But the friends and allies who have traveled with him so long draw him from his shell and help him to accept himself as he is, lending him the courage he needs to fight his fate.

She felt sympathy and concern for the people of the kingdom, and was greatly pained by her mother Queen Brahne's unbending resolve in invading other countries. On her sixteenth birthday, in an attempt to get advice about her mother from her uncle Cid, regent of Lindblum, she asked Zidane, a thief who had broken in the castle, to kidnap her.

	The princess of Alexandria who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. Dismayed by her mother Queen Brahne's resolution to invade other countries, she asked Zidane to kidnap her so that she could make her way to Cid, regent of Lindblum. Though her concern for her mother and her country was genuine, having been raised in a castle she knew little of the world, leading her to come across as somewhat self-important during her first journey. However, after hiding away under the false name Dagger, she came to know more of the world, growing more mature in the process.

	A Burmecian woman who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. Despite being a dragon knight, the pride of Burmecia, she was forbidden to reenter her own country once she had left. Yet her pride in being a dragon knight never wavered, and she remained eternally zealous. She had a cool demeanor, with an old-fashioned way of speaking, and though she was quick to rebuke her companions, she felt very deeply for them. She was also an old friend of Zidane.

	A Burmecian woman who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. As a proud dragon knight, she left her home country and traveled the world in search of a certain someone. She was reunited with her old friend Zidane during the Festival of the Hunt, which took place in Lindblum. Afterward, having learned of the attack on her home country Burmecia, she decided to join Zidane and his allies. Her fighting style, which took advantage of powerful jump attacks, was both graceful and beautiful.

Later, after the two friends met in Lindblum for the second time, they became caught up in events that would shake the world to its very core. Before long, Freya would also be reunited with her lover. However...

Having been alone since birth, he used his own fist to navigate his way through the world on his own. Because of this, he was unable to bring himself to trust others, and was rarely ever known to speak. Still, somehow, he found himself chasing after the man with the tail.

	A fighter who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. Having fought his way alone through the world, he was reluctant to put trust in others. When he was a guard in Treno he set up a trap to capture the thief Zidane, but ended up being framed by him, instead. This sent him after Zidane, though not for revenge, but out of suspicion for the actions of a man who despite being Amarant's equal chose not to act on it.

	A fighter who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. Even as an assassin appointed by Brahne herself, he was unable to subdue Zidane, who once threw his own trap back in his face. Curious as to why Zidane didn't deal him the final blow, and interested in seeing exactly what kind of man he was, Amarant decided to join his former adversary. Once a man who believe the strong have no need for the weak, the longer he spent with his new comrades, the more he changed.

	A female bounty hunter who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. Young and with beautiful brown skin, this self-proclaimed beautiful bounty hunter was somewhat full of herself. Her dream was to live a life of luxury, and to that end there was no job she would not undertake. Teaming up with the fearsomely powerful Amarant as another of Queen Brahne of Alexandria's hired assassins, she confronted her target Zidane. Despite her slender stature, she swung an axe as big as she was.

	A female bounty hunter who appears in tales of Gaia, a world foreign to this one. This self-proclaimed beautiful bounty hunter was full of pride, which was quickly falsified by her inability to handle small issues. As an assassin hired to find Garnet of Alexandria she came to stand before Zidane, but thanks to what Amarant decided was a cowardly move in taking a hostage to meet her goals, she found herself alone. It is also believed that she took part in Lindblum's Festival of the Hunt.
