Battle
Edit
The fight begins with Lightning alone. At first she doesn't seem very threatening as she only uses basic Gunblade attacks. However, once her HP is reduced to roughly 85%, a brief cutscene introduces Amodar who teams up with Lightning.
It is recommended to enter the fight with a very high-level party. The fight is still a challenge for a party with a maxed-out Crystarium, full-fragment Odin weapons, a generic Paradigm deck (no Tortoise required), and fully developed high level Paradigm Pack monsters.
Saboteurs are not of much use in the duration of the fight, aside from if the player intends to utilize a gradual Poison or Wound strategy, of which neither are recommended. As both Lightning and Amodar are immune to Dispel and other debuffs, yet still have multiple buffs for the majority of the fight, removing the buffs will be a lengthy process, let alone debilitating either of them. Lightning also has access to Esuna when she shifts to the Medic role, meaning that the debuffs that are applied, can easily be removed.
Lightning and Amodar will Paradigm Shift periodically. Both have access to the Commando role, but while Ravager, Synergist and Medic are exclusive to Lightning, Sentinel and Saboteur are exclusive to Amodar. Both will often utilize area of effect attacks, such as Ruinga and Blitz as their primary forms of damage while together in the Double Trouble Paradigm.
Given the fact that Lightning has more roles available, one might think that Lightning should be the primary target as she can heal. If the player has trouble dealing enough damage to make her single-cast healing spells worthless, Lightning should be the first target. However, Amodar can be an extremely troublesome foe, easily weakening even the strongest of parties. He throws grenades that do damage and inflict multiple debuffs at a time. Fog, Pain, and Slow are the most problematic, though Deshell, Deprotect, and Poison are threatening as well, once both he and Lightning switch to an offensive paradigm, such as Double Trouble.
Both foes can be Launched once staggered, rendering them harmless while airborne.
When either Lightning or Amodar falls, the remaining opponent gets stronger. If Amodar is the last one left, he will gain Protect, Shell, Regen, and Veil. If Lightning is the last one left, she will gain Haste, Bravery, Faith, and Vigilance. They will also now gain access to their Full ATB Skills, by using Limit Break. Amodar's Iron Bear Claw will deal massive damage to one party member, while Lightning's Army of One will deal a long string of small physical hits. The latter sends the target flying, leaving them helpless for a few extra seconds. The player will be unable to act during these skills, which essentially pause the battle.
As both Amodar and Lightning's drop rates are very low, it is likely the player will have to go through the battle a number of times before acquiring either as monster allies.
Strategy
Edit
Recommended paradigms are:
| Paradigm | Noel | Serah | Monster |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cerberus | COM | COM | COM |
| Tri-disaster | RAV | RAV | RAV |
| Diversity | COM | RAV | MED |
| Evened Odds | SYN | SAB | MED |
| Salvation | MED | MED | MED |
The player should start the battle in Evened Odds, casting Vigilance, Protect, Shell, and Veil on the whole party (preferably using their -ga variations to make it faster). Meanwhile Serah should attempt to cast Imperil on Amodar. If the player's HP drops into the red or just above, switch to Salvation (MED MED MED) to quickly restore the party's HP.
Once the player has switched to Tri-Disaster, target Lightning using Fire, Wind, and Ice elemental abilities. If the player needs to heal, it is recommended to switch to Diversity (COM-RAV-MED), and then go back to Tri-disaster.
Once Lightning is staggered, keep in Tri-Disaster until her Stagger Gauge is elevated to at least 500%, then switch to Cerberus-X. Launching her during this time proves an immense aid. Remaining in Cerberus will deal a lot of damage. Lightning is unlikely to fall in one stagger so repeat this process again. Vigilance is arguably the most key buff and should remain up all the time, however, the rest of the buffs may also be needed, depending on the player's HP and Lightning's remaining HP.
Once Lightning falls, the player should switch their attention to Amodar. Amodar is a greater problem now as he can inflict a lot of serious debuffs on the party. If the player is seriously struggling coping under the pressure of the debuffs, it may be prudent to equip Ribbons on the human characters or have a large stock of Unicorn Horns and select monster allies who have either high resistances to debuffs or very high HP. It is recommended to rebuff the party before the attention switches completely to Amodar, with Vigilance still being the most important buff.
Once the Chain Gauge has been stabilized, go into Tri-Disaster and use Wind, Ice and Lightning attacks on Amodar. If Amodar still has Imperil on him, this section will do more damage and will be easier. Once staggered remain in the Tri-Disaster Paradigm until he has 700% stagger and then switch to Cerberus and keep attacking Amodar, however, it is highly recommended to use Serah's Full ATB Skill, Ultima Arrow, and then switch to Cerberus during the attack animation, just before switching, to both raise the gauge and deal damage.
Once Amodar starts getting close the end of his Stagger, it is recommended to go all out with offensive Feral Links and use Noel's Meteor Javelin just before Amodar exits Stagger to deal massive damage and extend the duration for other characters to use powered moves. If Amodar is still standing, simply repeat the process until he falls.
Paradigm Pack
Edit
Amodar's stats are among the highest in the game, particularly in HP. This, coupled with his high strength can make him an attacking alternative to any Sentinel. Amodar innately halves all Fire damage.

Trivia
Edit
- Both bosses appear to be duplicates of the original Lightning and Amodar from the events of Final Fantasy XIII (between the Purge and 0 AF).
- Amodar may use the Unicorn Horn item once Lightning has fallen. This is only one of three cases where an enemy uses an item from Final Fantasy XIII-2, the other one being Ghouls in Academia -400 AF- and the PuPu's UFO.
- Amodar has a 'Cryptic' trait. This may be referring to his duplicate, Captain Cryptic.
