|Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings Enemy|
Ancient wyrm of the deeps, said to swallow tidal waves entire.
Leviathan is the Rank III Water Melee Esper in Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. Its normal attack, Barracuda Dive, damages a small group of enemies, and its special attack, Tidal Wave, deals heavy damage to a group of enemies.
Leviathan has the Attack Speed of 30 till 42, making his time between actions exactly 2.7 seconds till 2 seconds. Leviathan's basic attack, Barracuda Dive, is physical, and Attack is its major asset. Barracuda Dive hits any surrounding foes. Leviathan's Tsunami deals Water damage to foes in a line extending from the user, has a recharge time of 20 seconds, and becomes 15 when Leviathan is hasted.
Leviathan has a balance mix of Base Stats, which are considered as average-high or B-. Trying to fight Leviathan while ganging up on him or surrounding him with a group of melee attackers will only bring them pain. His Barracuda Dive deals moderate damage to all enemies in a circumference, its attack form being "blank point". A if combined with his Tidal Wave magick, he'll deal massive damage or even instant KO on enemies with low Mind. Leviathan is one of the best Water-elemental Espers to pit against Fire-elemental Espers since his weakness is Thunder, not Fire like Shivan, Shivar or Shiva.
Leviathan's Stamina is the lowest and may not be suitable when fighting enemies that have high Strength and powerful abilities. Leviathan may be immune to Immobilize or Disable, yet he is almost powerless when silenced.
Leviathan (Biblical Hebrew לִוְיָתָן or לווייתן Liwyāthān) is a violent sea creature that is referred to in the Hebrew Bible as well as the Talmud and some other ancient Jewish texts. During the golden age of seafaring, the term Leviathan became synonymous with any large sea creature, sometimes describing whales. Bible scholars interpreted Leviathan to be either a demonic sea creature and an enemy of God.
The Talmud and other ancient Jewish sources refer to Leviathan more specifically as a sea serpent, sometimes with multiple heads capable of breathing fire, that was made on the fifth day of Creation. It is said that during the end of days, God will make tents, or sukkah, out of the skin of Leviathan for the righteous to live in. Some have speculated that Leviathan was based on a real animal, the most popular theory being the Kronosaurus and the Nile crocodile.
Being mentioned in the Final Fantasy series as the King of the Seas, its incarnation also appears to derive from the legends of the Shinto god Ryūjin or Owatatsumi, said to be the dragon god that reigns over the tides and the seas. This is further reinforced by the parallels of the Leviathan faith of Wutai in Final Fantasy VII, as Shinto also sees the worship of water dragon kami in Japan.
In some cultures it is believed Leviathan lives at the bottom of Mariana Trench.
