Template:Sideicon Last Stand increases Defense and Spirit by 20% when below 30% HP. It is learned by Galuf, Bartz, Dark Knight Cecil, Delita, Xiao, and Jake. Eight can gain it via his exclusive materia, Lightspeed Jab. It can also be equipped via Golem or Carbuncle after upgrading them to 2*.
The following abilities have the similar effects as Last Stand:
- Elza's Dark Aegis increases her Defense and Spirit by 30% for 3 turns when below 30% HP.
- Loren's Unbreakable Heart increases her Defense and Spirit by 100% when below 30% HP.
- Wilhelm's Invincible Heart increases his Defense and Spirit by 75% when below 30% HP.
- Zargaabath's Low HP Powerup increases his Attack and Defense by 80% when below 35% HP.
- Drace's Desperation increases her Attack and Defense by 80% when below 20% HP.
- Guy's Latent Potential increases his Attack and Defense by 50% when below 50% HP.
- Demon Rain's Demonic Fury increases his Attack by 30% when below 60% HP. Ability Awakening boosts it to 120% and also boosts Defense by the same amount.
- Queen's Berserk increases her Attack 200% when below 3% HP. Ability awakening increases the threshold and attack boost, and additionally boosts Defense and Spirit.
- Xon's On the Edge increases his Defense by 50% and Critical rate 30% for 2 turns when below 30% HP.
- Veritas of the Dark's Darklord increases Attack and Defense by 100% when below 30% HP.

- The Cruel Oath katana increases Attack, Defense, Magic and Spirit 40% for 3 turns when below 30% HP.
- Demonic Life materia increases Attack, Defense, Magic and Spirit 40% when below 50% HP.
- Resuscitate materia is Ulrica's trust mastery reward; it increases increases Attack, Defense, Magic and Spirit 60% when below 50% HP.
- Resentment materia is Eve's trust mastery reward; it increases Defense 110% for 3 turns when below 30% HP. It also improves HP.
