Ho, Ho, Ho... How foolhardy to dare challenge me, KRAKEN the FIEND of the Water.
Kraken (NES version)
Kraken (クラーケン, Kurāken?) is the Fiend of Water from the original Final Fantasy. He appears in the Sunken Shrine and bears a squid-like form, though his cape and stance give him a somewhat regal appearance. Two hundred years before the game, as the second Fiend to awaken, Kraken sank the Water Crystal's shrine to the ocean floor, whereupon the seas raged as the Crystal was drained of its power.
Battle
First battle
Kraken relies on heavy physical attacks as he can hit up to 8 times. He supports with Ink (25% chance to use) to inflict Blind status on the party, which will not only make it harder for physical attacks to hit him, but potentially increase the number of hits he can deal against blinded party members.
Kraken is extremely vulnerable to Thunder-based attacks, but his high Magic Defense blunts some of this weakness. Cast Protera and Invisira and keep the healing up as you strike with Thundaga and strong physical attacks, which can be bolstered by using Haste and Temper to enhance your physical attackers' strength.
Second battle
As with the other fiends of the past, Kraken has improved stats and loses his weakness to lightning. He gains the ability to use Thundara, which he has a 37.5% chance to cast every round. Ink is now used at a reduced rate of 15.625% of the time.
While generally stronger, Kraken has changed very little and the same tactics still work. The party may opt to use a Blue Curtain or cast NulShock to defend against Thundara.

Etymology
Kraken were giant sea monsters, found in Norse and Icelandic mythology. Often depicted as gigantic octopuses or squids, they were thought to rise up from the deeps, grappling and then sinking small ships. Other myths held that the greatest dangers from the Kraken were the whirlpools left behind from their descent back into the deeps.
TheTrivia
- His recurring, trademark laughter is "Oh, ho, ho, ho". It is in the original Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, and Dissidia Final Fantasy.
