Kohlingen

Kohlingen (コーリンゲン Kōringen) is a village in the game Final Fantasy VI, and along with South Figaro is nominally governed by the Figaros. It is located in the northwest corner of the world, and it is Rachel's hometown. An herb doctor also lives there.

Before the adventure began, Locke would come often to visit Rachel. However, during an accident on one of their adventures, Rachel lost her memory. Her father chased Locke out of town because he believed that it was Locke's fault. When the Empire attacked Kohlingen, Rachel died. Just before she died, however, she uttered Locke's name. The herb doctor kept her in her youthful state for Locke.
The party passes through here on their search for Terra. They find out that Terra passed through Kohlingen, and accidentally burned a house down. Locke also visits the herb doctor and reminisces about him and Rachel. Shadow is hanging out in the inn, but will not join unless the party pays him 3000 GP.

[edit] World of Ruin
Kohlingen in the World of Ruin is a very destitute place. People are reminiscing of the days they spent when the world was not destroyed. Setzer is hanging out in the inn. He has lost all hope, and Celes has to talk him into helping out her, Edgar, and Sabin. Setzer then takes the party to Darryl's Tomb so they can obtain another airship. Later, after finding him in the Phoenix Cave, Celes takes Locke back to Kohlingen so he can use the Phoenix Esper to revive Rachel. Rachel helps Locke put his guilt behind him, and Locke shows off his new treasure to the party and rejoins. The residents of Kohlingen gain new hope, and they begin planting flowers.
