The Knight school is focused on defense, both for the user and the party. Many Knight abilities boost the user's DEF or RES, or deal damage based on the user's DEF. Other abilities grant the user Draw Fire or Magic Lure, forcing enemies to focus their attacks on the Knight and sparing the party. Some Knight abilities calculate power using both ATK and DEF. Knight abilities mostly deal Holy elemental damage, but have access to several Earth abilities as well.
Notable abilities in the Knight school include: Draw Fire and Magic Lure, which draw single-target attacks towards the user; Saint Cross, which casts Esuna and Regen on the user; The "Bringer" series of attacks that deal additional hits depending on the user's DEF; The "Sabre" series of attacks that deal five hits in exchange for a DEF penalty; and the Rank 6 ability Aegis Strike.

Unlocking access to Rank 6 Knight abilities requires the individual character to be at Level 65 and have their second level cap broken, unlocking their Record Spheres. The player can then use Knight Motes to unlock access to Rank 6 Knight. Note that only characters with innate access to Rank 5 Knight will have the Empowered Sphere that includes access to Rank 6 Knight; characters who must use their Record Spheres to access Rank 5 have no Empowered Sphere for Knight and cannot access Rank 6.
