The Island Shrine, also known as the Solitary Island Temple, is a location in Final Fantasy V. It is found in Bartz's world, but is surrounded by mountains in the middle of the sea. It can be visited in the merged world, wherein it is located on the middle of the Big Bridge. The shrine houses one of the the tablets needed to unlock the legendary weapons in the Sealed Castle.

History[]

Island Shrine Tablet

The tablet room of the Island Shrine.

Because the Island Shrine is mentioned in the Sealed Tome as a holding place for a tablet,[1] it can be presumed that it predates the world's being split, which would make it over a thousand years old when visited in Final Fantasy V.[2] It does not appear to have been visited any time since, and is inaccessible in Bartz's world.

Bartz Klauser and the Light Warriors visited the Island Shrine to obtain one of the tablets necessary to unseal the sealed weapons. Inside, they found and defeated one of Exdeath's minions, Wendigo. Doing this dissipated the barrier around the Fork Tower, allowing entry.

After Neo Exdeath was felled, the four crystals were restored, and the wind crystal was placed here.

Geography[]

Island Shrine sprite. The Island Shrine is located in the middle of an island in the sea. The island is surrounded by mountains, meaning it can only be reached by the Big Bridge; as this is not present in Bartz's world, the shrine cannot be reached until the merged world.

The Island Shrine has a strong ressemblence to the Wind Shrine: both are temples resembling ancient Greek architecture, have pillars with patterns carved into them throughout, and several growths down many of the walls and pillars highlighting their age.
