Ifrit is a boss in Final Fantasy VI. He is fought alongside Shiva in the garbage chute of the Magitek Research Facility.

Battle Edit

Ifrit uses physical attacks and Fire-elemental magic. If attacked by magic three times Ifrit will counter with Firaga, likely killing a party member. When damaged five times in any way, Ifrit retreats and is replaced by Shiva. Blitz, Bushido, Tools are effective against both of them, and Blizzard and Fire are also powerful, though of course the player should only use Blizzard against Ifrit and Fire against Shiva, since spells of the opposite element heal them. When either of them is defeated, the battle ends. Shiva has slightly less HP, but only a few hundred so neither is any easier to defeat than the other.

Strategy Edit

The simplest way to win against Ifrit and Shiva is to attack Ifrit five times since he's the first to be fought in the formation, it doesn't matter if the attack is absorb, nullified, or deals damage. When Ifrit swaps places with Shiva, the player should run away during this transition. Since there is no enemy present during the transition, the party can successfully run away. The reason behind this is that Ifrit and Shiva's formation do not have the "no run" flag activated which prevents running away for this formation.

Etymology Edit

In Arabian mythology, Ifrit (also spelled Efreet or Afreet, from Arabic عفريت Ifrīt), is the name given to a class of Jinn (magical spirits also known as Djinn, Djinni, and Genie) that embody fire. Though they could live for thousands of years, they were not immortal, and if cut, they would "bleed" the fire running through their veins until it consumed their bodies.
