Ifrit is the first boss in Final Fantasy VIII, fought at the end of the Fire Cavern. After defeating Ifrit in a timed battle, he will join the party as a Guardian Force. The timed battle is part of the SeeD exam and determines the Judgment score. The less time left in the clock when Ifrit is defeated, the better the score.
To get full marks, one must defeat Ifrit with 10 seconds or less in the clock. The easiest way to attain this is to defeat Ifrit and then wait for the time to expire before choosing a name for it, as the timer does not stop until only after Ifrit has been named.
- When the party summons the GF Shiva to attack him:
- "They have Shiva!?"
- When Ifrit does his physical attack:
- "Impudent humans!"
- After Ifrit has lost a certain percentage of his HP:
- "Hm! Not bad for a human."
- Defeated Ifrit:
- "For me to lose to a human... Very well, I will join you."
- Shiva defeated Ifrit:
- "Ugh, I underestimated Shiva. Very well, I will join you."
Ifrit can be tough if the player has not obtained sufficient junctions before the battle. Summoning Shiva and casting Blizzard work well. If Shiva has learned I Mag-RF, the player can battle Fastitocalons on the beach to gather Water Crystals and refine them into Water magic.
