Other information Ifrit is fixed at level 6.

Ifrit is the first boss in Final Fantasy VIII, fought at the end of the Fire Cavern. After defeating Ifrit in a timed battle, he will join the party as a Guardian Force. The timed battle is part of the SeeD exam and determines the Judgment score. The less time left in the clock when Ifrit is defeated, the better the score.

To get full marks, one must defeat Ifrit with 10 seconds or less in the clock. The easiest way to attain this is to defeat Ifrit and then wait for the time to expire before choosing a name for it, as the timer does not stop until only after Ifrit has been named.

  • When the party summons the GF Shiva to attack him:
"They have Shiva!?"
  • When Ifrit does his physical attack:
"Impudent humans!"
  • After Ifrit has lost a certain percentage of his HP:
"Hm! Not bad for a human."
  • Defeated Ifrit:
"For me to lose to a human... Very well, I will join you."
  • Shiva defeated Ifrit:
"Ugh, I underestimated Shiva. Very well, I will join you."

Ifrit is weak against Ice. Ifrit uses physical attacks, casts Fire, and uses his Jump Punch ability, which can be dangerous.

Ifrit can be tough if the player has not obtained sufficient junctions before the battle. Summoning Shiva and casting Blizzard work well. If Shiva has learned I Mag-RF, the player can battle Fastitocalons on the beach to gather Water Crystals and refine them into Water magic.

It is good to keep HP over 100, as if one is not prepared for Jump Punch, either Squall or Quistis can be KO'd.

In Arabian mythology, Ifrit (also spelled Efreet or Afreet, from Arabic عفريت Ifrīt), is the name given to a class of Jinn (magical spirits also known as Djinn, Djinni, and Genie) that embody fire. Though they could live for thousands of years, they were not immortal, and if cut, they would "bleed" the fire running through their veins until it consumed their bodies.
