Hornet is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series. It is a giant insect that often appear in swarms and use status effect attacks. Hornets are aerial enemies and are usually weak defensively. Hornets are modelled after the real world insects, the largest of wasps.

Final Fantasy II

Hornet first appeared in Final Fantasy II. They are found at the beginning of the game and attack in swarms and may inflict the Venom status effect.
Final Fantasy III

Hornets are fought on the areas of the world map around Castle Sasune. As a flying enemy, they are weak to Wind and immune to Earth and their attacks may inflict Poison.
Final Fantasy VI

The Hornet often attacks in groups, but has no special attacks. They are fought in South Figaro Cave.
Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-

Hornets are fought during missions. They are part of group of monsters made after the Slaps enemy from Final Fantasy VII. Unlike the other hornet enemies in the series, the Hornets in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- are resistant to physical attacks and are best defeated with magic.
Final Fantasy IX

Hornets are fought in Gizamaluke's Grotto and inflict opponents with Berserk. Quina can eat it to learn Vanish.
Final Fantasy X

The most formidable version of Hornet appears in Final Fantasy X. It is a special enemy created in the Species Conquest at Monster Arena. It has several dangerous attacks inflicting Silence, Sleep, Darkness, Poison and Instant Death. It can also use Curaga on itself.

The Hornet appears in Final Fantasy Dimensions as an enemy encountered around Lux Castle. In addition, the Killer Bee and the Stinger appear as enemies.
