The Hellhound is a beast/wolf-type enemy in Final Fantasy XII. It can be found in the southern ends of the Paths of Chained Light and The Needlebrake areas, as well as The Rustling Chapel area, of the Golmore Jungle. It also tends to attack in a pack, which fighting against them in the first visit to Golmore Jungle isn't advised, as it is much stronger than the other enemies that appear in the Jungle.

Page 1: Observations Edit
Being a hunter of the highest order, with a body of jet black and an aura of eldritch ensorcelment, it would chase its quarry to the very gates of the underworld. Originally a type of hyena, a steady diet of malign, magicked creatures transmogrified it into what it is today. The sharp horn on its nose and long fangs jutting from its upper jaw are like to arrested magma. When they die, their color fades, becoming naught but dull, black stone.

hellhound is a supernatural dog found in folklore. A wide variety of ominous or hellish supernatural dogs occur in mythologies around the world, similar to the ubiquitous dragon. Features that have been attributed to hellhounds include black fur, glowing red or sometimes glowing yellow eyes, super strength or speed, ghostly or phantom characteristics, and foul odor.A
In cultures that associate the afterlife with fire, hellhounds may have fire-based abilities and appearance. They are often assigned to guard the entrances to the world of the dead, such as graveyards and burial grounds, or undertake other duties related to the afterlife or the supernatural, such as hunting lost souls or guarding a supernatural treasure. In European legends, seeing a hellhound or hearing it howl may be either an omen of death or even a cause of death.
