Grunt is an enemy from Final Fantasy VII encountered in the Sector 1 Reactor, the game's opening location, and is a possible encounter in the Battle Square opening round before the player obtains Tiny Bronco. In the Battle Square, it has enhanced stats with double the normal HP and 25% higher Attack and Magic Attack.

Grunts and their variations have a "flammable" (火気厳禁, Kaki Genkin?) sign on their arm.

Grunt was called Combatants in the earliest Final Fantasy VII demo, and also appeared in the boss battle accompanying a large Sweeper; this battle replaces the Guard Scorpion battle from the final game.

BattleEdit

Grunts use their two attacks, Handclaw and Beam Gun, equally, and both are weak. Beam Gun is marginally stronger and a Grunt is more likely to use it if he is in the back row. Grunts are more powerful than the MPs in the same reactor, but are still far from formidable.

Grunt was supposed to use Handclaw on targets on the front row and Beam Gun on targets on the back row, but due to flaws in the AI script, Grunts do not differentiate between targets on different rows.
