The Goblin is an enemy in Final Fantasy V. It is the first enemy the player encounters in the game when rescuing Lenna outside the Tycoon Meteor. The Blue Magic spell it uses, Goblin Punch, can be damaging if the party characters are the same level as it is.

It is otherwise encountered in abundance around Tycoon Castle, the Wind Shrine, Tule, and the Pirates' Hideout. One is also in a monster-in-a-box at Tule's Beginner's Hall (it guards a pair of Leather Shoes). If caught and released, it will use the powerful Flare spell. In the Pixel Remaster version, Goblins appear in the grass areas around the desert where Sandcrawlers reside in Galuf's world.

Etymology[]

A goblin is a small, mischievous creature found in many European folk tales and legends. The word "goblin" comes from the Norman French word Gobelinus, the name of a ghost that haunted the town of Évreux in the 12th century.
