Gigas Lich, known as the Propagator of Doom, is a major boss in Bravely Default.

D's Journal entriesEdit

This undead mage of the race of giants uses Negative Power each turn to raise his P.Atk and M.Atk before unleashing his mighty fists and powerful magic.

HistoryEdit

In Bravely Default, assumed to have bypassed Eternian forces, Gigas Lich took residence in Everlast Tower and becomes the only thing standing the way of Agnès Oblige's group from awakening the Earth Crystal.

As revealed in Bravely Second, the Glanz Empire somehow acquired Gigas Lich and subjected the monster to beana cells to make him an virtually immortal enforcer under their control to safeguard Tiz Arrior. But the altered Gigas Lich is apparently slain by Magnolia Arch.

BattleEdit

Gigas Lich is an undead opponent. At the end of each round, Gigas Lich will use Negative Power to increase its P.Atk and M.Atk by 10% each time. These increases can be removed by Dispel. It can deal moderate Earth damage to a single target with Quaga, and occasionally heal by casting it on itself. The biggest threats are Slam, which deals moderate damage to the entire party, and Death, which often inflicts Instant Death on a party member.

StrategyEdit

Depending on how high the player has raised job levels of certain jobs, this battle can end fairly quickly. One can choose any job (preferably one with high defense), so long as White Magic is the secondary ability. The player can also equip the Salve-Maker Healing Lore support ability and the Spiritmaster Holy One support ability. With each character's healing powers amped up to 350%, casting Curada or Curaga on Gigas Lich deals tremendous damage. One can simply turn their White Magic onto characters who fall victim to Death, or just need some healing after taking hits.

Dispel can be used to negate the status boosts Gigas Lich grants himself at the end of each turn. However, with each character landing hits in the high thousands, he shouldn't get too many boosts in, so it's just as effective to keep attacking him until he falls. It's also why choosing a job with high defense is recommended: with healing cranked up to 350%, characters don't have to have good mind stats to deal damage in this battle, so protecting them with armor makes it more convenient than wasting MP and turns on healing lower-defense characters.

One can equip a Safety Ring to nullify Death. Earth Charms or the Swordmaster support ability Abate Earth can be used to tone down the damage dealt by Quaga. Equipping characters with heavy armor and/or Dual Shields (from the Knight job) also makes Gigas's Slam less of a threat as well.

An effective way to mitigate any risk from Gigas Lich is to use the Performer's move One More For You on Gigas Lich every turn. As an undead creature, One More For You reduces its BP by one. By using it every turn, Gigas Lich is prevented from ever acting, asides from on the first turn.

Gigas Lich can be killed on the first turn if the player has an elixir in their inventory. Gigas Lich is an undead enemy, which are harmed by restorative moves and items, so using an elixir will cause instant death on it. It is possible to earn a One Turn Victory and Unscathed this way, especially if the player uses Bravely Second as soon as the battle starts.

EtymologyEdit

Gigas is a popular term for races of giants in fantasy games. Gigas is a Greek word meaning "giant," originally used to describe the race of Gigantes in Greek mythology and is used in the scientific name, as the specific epithet, of hundreds of species of animals and dozens of plant species to denote their size.

In fantasy fiction, a lich is a type of undead creature. Often such a creature is the result of a transformation, as a powerful magician or king striving for eternal life uses spells or rituals to bind his intellect to his animated corpse and thereby achieve a form of immortality.
