The Gigantuar is a boss in Final Fantasy VI Advance. A giant Cactuar, he appears once the party has spoken to a man in Maranda about the "Giant Cactuar" and then defeated ten or more Cactuars in the Maranda Desert. He will be encountered like a normal random battle when the party steps on a specific tile of desert. He is based off of the Final Fantasy VIII boss Jumbo Cactuar, as they both share a curly mustache, and both give you the Cactuar summon spell.

After he has been defeated, he drops the Cactuar Magicite.

[edit] Strategy

The Gigantuar is quite powerful. He also has a high Evasion stat, and as such, can be rather hard to hit. He will mostly attack with 1000 Needles, on a regular basis, so boosting the party's Defense is low priority. He also counters attacks with Knockdown, which has high power. The party should use as many 100% accurate attacks as possible, such as Ultima, Edgar's tools, and Espers. When all his HP is depleted, he will use ten 1000 Needles attacks, so if you do not have a high amount of HP, use Reraise to bring back your characters, use the Quetzalli Esper, or have one character Jump before he unleashes these 10 to survive. Even though you're fighting the Gigantuar later on in the story, he can still provide a great challenge if you're ill prepared.
