Gavial is a trophy Rare Game enemy in Final Fantasy XII that appears in the No. 10 Channel in the Garamsythe Waterway. Since it is a trophy monster, it will only spawn once the Hunt Club quest has started. It is also fought in the Zodiac versions Trial Mode at Stage 40 along with two Baritine Crocs where the Thief's Cuffs can be stolen from it.

Some players find that on the Nintendo Switch version, the gavial's entry can show up in the bestiary before the Hunt Club quest is accepted.

The player must have spoken to the "Huntmaster" in Phon Coast and defeated Thalassinon to start of the Rare Game quest.

The player must close the no. 10 sluice gate and enter the area drained of water. Gavial is not found on one of the upper walkways, but down in the channel. After waiting 10 to 15 seconds, Gavial will come running towards the party.

Etymology[]

A gavial is a type of crocodile with long, thin jaws which commonly eat fishes in its diet. "Gavial" is a common name for any crocodile that eat fish, initially called as "gharial".
